XP Prof

I run xp prof on my packard bell,but i am having probs opening DVD-R disks.
I buy these disks with lots of music albums on them,(purely for learning purposes)but my machine refuses to open them,or it takes ages for to open them sometimes.
Any one got any idea how to fix this prob .

Sounds like it's your DVD drive having trouble reading the disk. If you can, try the disk on another computer, if that can't read it either then the disk is probably poor quality, poorly written or damaged.

If another system can read it then try cleaning your DVD drive (DVD lens cleaner), or buy a new drive for £20.

usually on a laptop you can see the laser lens on the dvd drive....

use a cotton bud and some pure alcohol and give it a wipe
BE VERY GENTLE!!!

Dont press hard, be as gentle as you can... pretend your getting dust off your eyeball LOL

if your dont have alcohol just use a damp bud, then turn it around and dry it with the other end ;)

its worked for me in the past.

of course, it might not be that at all, it might be the disc brand that your DVD-Rom doesnt like as Polomint said

Cheers for the advice folks.
I will try the suggestions,but i do not know if i can get into clean the part that you suggest.
It is a Samsung DVD-ROM SD.608,and sometimes i have to open and close the drawer a few times b4 it opens the disks,but now it does not open any of them,not even the ones that it opened in the past.
I have no prob with it opening normal prog disks,or game disks,and i get my DVD-R disks from the same person all the time,so i can,t understand what has happened

Buy a new dvd drive, they're cheap as cheap things these days.
