Do you get a lock now?+-

According to https://satkurier.pl/news/2342…ack-zmienia-satelite.html there a jamming signal on

11,014V (SR: 107140, FEC: 3/4; DVB-S2X/8PSK) using the Med Central Beam which also covers Germany.
Any jamming of those beams won't concern me, as I can only receive the North Sea and Med West beams. There is some overlap of those beams here in East Anglia - I can lock the CNN Backup on 11295H and a couple of other tps from Med West.

When BBC Satback disappeared for a while (coffee break?) yesterday morning, there was no sign of any interference or indeed any breakthrough of signal from any other beams in that spot (post # 123).

Today's scan -

A massive signal again here. (nr Kelso Scottish Borders)

Antenna is an 80cm dish offset lnb - the primary focus on 22W.

(Ignore the 31.W satellite position - thats just a spare slot I hijacked!)

ATM in Germany no lock possible, as both beams Med Central and North Sea are overlapping.

Maybe someone from Germany or/and another part of the continent can show us on the spectrum what this overlap looks like on the two beams in his/their area.
Thanks.

You can have a look to the spectrum in the response from stephan94 15.0°W Telstar 12V - Satellites Community

I am somewhere in the middle of Med Central and the NorthSea beams. For my location, it looks like two beams are overlapping and competing with each other.
If we look at that big chunk between 10950 and 11074, in the central europe it is a single transponder (11,014V SR: 107140, FEC: 3/4; DVB-S2X/8PSK) and it is the dominant one. Maybe reception for us in the middle of the beams is still a possibility. I’ve ordered a bigger antenna and am looking forward to conducting some tests.

The fact that a report is sent to FlySat or Lyngsat is secondary, but it doesn't surprise me in your case.
My goal is not to receive DX, but to find out TS content.
Therefore, Lyngsat, Flysat and others on these lists do not publish the location of the user, but only the nickname.
To find out where and on which device the signal user is received are used other pages.
For example, how have you progressed in processing DVB-NIP ?
Or are you waiting again for someone to give you know-how ?

Hmm I wonder....

Is that placing of BBC Satback between two competing signals deliberate? Id bet it is - to further restrict coverage.
I know it sounds kinda silly and it is not correct but what if my reception device is dumb enough and doesn't know about DVB-S2X and I have a bigger antenna and I set parameters manually and BBC’s freq is a little bit stronger and with a fec value of 9/10….

A bigger antenna will also pick up more of the unwanted beam but maybe It is still worth trying.?.

Just noticed this morning that they are now scanning in as 'normal' TV & Radio services, rather than data channels.

For what is worth, since people with bigger dishes have already failed, no lock from Central Italy with a 1.8 m Channel Master.
I may have a look with a spectrum analyser to check if at least I can see a bit of signal (though the other beam may well cover it), but locking is very unlikely, at least judging from the beam technical data and from this first quick nightly attempt.

Pleasant surprise, looking at the beam and reception reports managed to secure the attached as:-

Alicante, España.......1.8m Marrafa, 15.4ºC and cloudy.

Reception tuned thanks to the GoldMaster SR-525HD.

Octagon SF8008 4k Twin and GT Media Combo compare.

Pleased. :Y

We know that (most) broadcast satellites are capable of being operational far longer than their design life. Barring impact from a micro meteor or debris / onboard electronics failure the main reason for withrawal from service is depletion of onboard station keeping fuel.

Thhe MEV space tug concept has been successfully demonstrated twice now, there is no reason that it wont work just as successfully in the future. Thus SES could contract for 5 or 10 years lifetime extension quite easily for any of their spacecraft that are low on fuel but are otherwise healthy. With the forthcoming decline in satellite delivery of broadcast television services as its replaced by IP delivery there is currently little incentive for companies to spend millions of $ of shareholders money for multiple spacecraft that might never be fully utilised & therefore fail to make their build, launch & operational costs back.

IP delivery of everything is coming. Broadcasters are deperate to ditch linear transmission formate simply they have no real idea if any particular programme is popular with audiences. IP delivery means they can hoover up all that lovely data about EXACTLY what people are watching, how long its being watched, what programmes are doing well.

Or provide you properly tailored targetted advertising.

Or upsell premium services without having to share revenue with other companies.

Or of course just sell your watching & listening histories on to 3rd parties.

If you dont believe me just bear this in mind - the BBC knew details of what were the popular tv programmes on iplayer over the lucrative xmas & New year period for 2022 & 2023 by 4th January!

January 2023

January 2024

That sort of level of data is literally priceless for commercial tv companies.
Still dont believe me about the advantages of ip delivery of tv for broadcasters?
