Do we think a dish 'tweak' might help a bit -or leave it alone?

On a local forum I have received mixed reports (Gran Canaria). One guy who has the same dish as me is pulling in a lot more channels. Some people are receiving nothing. I strongly believe this is due to the differences in alignment of the dishes (plus other factors) and that tweaking will make a big difference. I am going to wait a few days until 2E moves to 28.2E (it is currently at 28.4E) and then call in a reputable professional installer to tweak my alignment (I already have an Inverto Black Ultra LNB, good receivers and short cable runs).

Although I am a massive HD fan, if I can just get one reliable ITV with related C4, one BBC1 and one BBC2 (HD or not) I will feel lucky and will be content.

Marnin peeps, thanks for the advice re dish cheeky monkey. I can only say in my experience, fiddling with the dish alignment and skew and flexing the feed point a bit it has got me Meridian ect on 11053 all day from early morning to 7pm when it disappears. Does this mean the bird is wobbling? 2f that is. I have 4 hd and 4 seven all the time now 0n 11126 after my fiddling, 4hd stutters at times on the S16 box. Had to resort to steaming ITV on a 3G dongle from Movistar for the missis's emmerdale, it did work after a fashion. I read somewhere that 2e isn't exacltly on station until 1n moves so we'll see what happens if and when.

My friend has lost her channels and the satellite people say she needs a new LNB they have ran out of the good ones. Can someone recommend which make and model is best ( needs 4 outlets) so she can order one from the UK.

Hi,
What dish type, size etc?
Are the lost channels related to the Astra 2e migration?

Assuming your friend has an off-set dish (LNB on the end of an arm pointing up towards the dish) the LNB of choice is Inverto Black Ultra. If it's a prime focus dish (LNB in the centre usually supported by three equal length arms) I think its the Invacom QDF301 and matching feedhorn.

The Dish is 3.1m the channels are not lost because of the migration as from the information I got from this site I added ITV on a different frequency Tuesday. The satellite man was out Tuesday night and tried to realign it but said LNB was not good enough and no new ones at the mo.
Thank you @PaulR it is on the end of an arm so she can order the Inverto Black Ultra.

When he say it's "no good" - what does that mean? Has he determined it to be faulty or a very, very old one that is known to be worse than others.

At the end of the day, if your signals on BBC/ITV are marginal then a new LNB *may* help in certain circumstances. But it's not a substitute for an even larger dish... Just don't get ripped off.

Tell her to make sure that it is the Black Ultra she orders and receives. Inverto also make a Black Pro and a red one amongst others. It has to be the Black Ultra and some sellers don't know the difference - and that's putting it charitably.

If the LNB is no good, what condition is the co-axial cable in?

Thankyou @Captain Jack It has been faulty for about 9 months example C5 would play in one room and not another. They were supposed to have it replaced then but it got forgotten about as they didnt really watch C5 much but now satellite men and new LNBs are like gold dust here now. Also that is why she wants to buy her own LNB so she knows exactly how much it costs
@PaulR I will also check the cable this afternoon

Time will tell - I will have a Black Ultra here in 4 weeks time to try out. I will post results.

I agree, that's what most of us would like, no chance at the moment here in Portugal, although there are rumours something is yet to change. I would happily pay a BBC licence fee.

This is EXACTLY the situation that I talked about in post 132!
