Did you follow the procedure: 1) disconnect ALL cables from DM500S. 2) Connect ONLY the Serial cable then click the "Connect" button of Dream up. 3) Only then should you power up your DM500S box. 4) Select Flash image and select the image that you want to load on to your box.
