Nice one. Hope you have a 110v transformer. Looking forward to the updates. Hope it goes well.

Not sure if that type of bearing is suitable for the direction of load that it will be subjected to. I think that type is for rotating shafts whose load is at 90 degrees to the shaft. The way, I guess, you would be using it it would be putting force in line with the shaft. I think the joint you...

That looks like a spherical joint with a built in bolt :) :) :)

That does surprise me. I used to do a fair few miles (16k a year) on my FZ600 and used either chain lube or a scott oiler and the chain still wore out after about 8,000 miles. If WD40 works for you then continue what you are doing.

I didn't realise you were using bronze bushes, that oil should be OK. I thought you were just using washers and bolts. I have read your comments on ********* joints so I won't mention them :) Good Luck.

Interesting choice. I would have thought it would be OK. Must admit I might have been inclined to use a grease but you should be fine with oil. How's it going with the build?

Please don't use WD40 for lubrication. It is a Water Dispersant. It is very good at dispersing water i.e. inside a distributor cap and it is not bad at freeing up seized components. PlusGas is much better as a penetrating oil. For lubrication and corrosion protection please use either 3 in 1...

You can get angle grinder holder for about £20. This converts it to a chop saw of sorts. eg: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/060522008

Just remembered where I used to see Spherical joints. I used to test engine oils for MoD. We had engines mounted on a test bed with dynamometers to provide engine load. Long story but the load cells (device that measures how much load is applied to engine) were attached to frame by a spherical...

Very nice. Think your photos will inspire others or at minimum get you a collection or adoring fans :-)

Looks good, well done. If you want to butt weld and get more strength you can chamfer the edges at 45degrees to get more passes of weld.

Just to update. I successfully recorded the F1 on RTL (19.2e) and recorded Radio 5 live for sound. I played them both back and got them synchronised by lap 4 :) So all worked well. Thanks for all the help and advice.

Looks good. Well done. Not that it matters on the back of your dish but I understand that 'flapper wheels' are better to tidy up welds than grinding disks. One thing to remember is not to weld enclosed sections. i.e. don't weld up both ends of a box section without an air hole. If you don't...

Looks like we are about same age. mk1 1.3 escort was my first car, put a 1600 crossflow in that and then 2.0 pinto :) Had 2 Cortina's to get engines for mk1. Cars were so simple in those days :) Hope the welding goes well.

Looks good Martin. Always better, if possible, to spend a little more on something that will do everything you can throw at it rather than something that is pushing it. Lets face it if the weld wasn't good enough with a small welder the consequences of a weld failing may be quite expensive...
