My heart goes out to you,as someone who has just gone through two operations and survived, i feel awful, i cannot imagine just how you feel. Bless you and your family.
At one time i had 10 narrow invertos on a TD88, there was some juggling to work out the best position for pointing the dish in the first instance. Have Turksat satellite at 42 on the far end of a line of LNBs was fine for me at the time as the signals were incredibly strong here in the mdlands.....
I like using AM but on the "mid Band" 26.965-27.405 Mhz CEPT band, half of europe has had it for donkeys years , hence big problems in the summer. But i'm very happy about the SSB side, although i've been using it since the 80's anyway.
Inddeed Smoggy, the phase lock in these radios (PLL 02A) had binary coded logic, just cutting certain tracks on the pcb leading to the ic will send you up 32 channels, 64 channels etc, you just need the VCO to cope with the change.
It could be done Martin, i was chattting with some guys from near Newcastle Airport the other month, nice bit of sporadic E skip. it only lasted 10 minutes though. I'm only on 10-15 watts FM.
