Hi,

I want to cancel sky as it's costing a fortune.
I would like a satelite receiver where I can get channels and record them if that possible?
Any suggestions please?

For the UK channels?? Get a Freesat PVR - plugs into your existing dish and gives you recording facilities of the free channels for a one off purchase price, with no-ongoing commitments

Equipment reviews, current costs etc on the joinfreesat.co.uk website

Thank you for your reply.
I had looked at some boxes where I can get most if the channels I get for £95 a month incl broadband, phone and multi room.
It's apparent that Sky don't value customers who they've had for 12 years.

What is your opinion on the Sky Box F5s?
Is this easy to set up and maintain?

Thank you for your help, it is a maze out there trying to work out what's best!

If your planning on using one of these boxes with a so called gift i wouldn't bother as Sky are currently doing something with the encryption which in a nutshell means you may be lucky and get it for 12 months or it may last a few days.

If that happens its likely that all the money you have paid out will be lost and your payserver will disappear with the money you have paid him.

If you want to guarantee viewing the only way you will do it is either use freesat or pay a subscription to either Sky or Virgin Media. I would see what Virgin have to offer if its available in your area.

My personal opinion of the Skybox F5s, utter cheap chinese crap. Its not bad for DXing but thats about as far as it goes.

We have a sub-forum dedicated to the Skybox (Also Openbox & Libertview) here.

As you'll see, the boxes are generally well liked and, at under £50 for the Hardware, great value for a PVR capable HD multi-satellite box with a sensitive tuner.

But they are often acquired, as Nano mentioned, solely for use in gaining access to BSkyB content by improper means and we don't condone that or permit detailed discussion of it.

Have a read, through the forum, and consider installing a motorized dish, which will give you access to numerous satellites, channels, and providers, many of which I find better than Sky, both in programming, without constant advertisements, and quality.
One of the advantages, of satellite, is the different audio selections, which often includes an English language option.
