My Satellite Setup
Triple Dragon, Dreambox 8000, Echostar AD3000ip, TBS6522,6925,6983 PCie cards.
Gibertini 1.25m motorised dish driven by the AD3000, with either Inverto BU Quad or Norsat / XMW Ka LNBs . SMW 1.05m + 3 other dishes. Speccy: Promax HD Ranger+

I got my 01 a few days ago, and it's firing the LNBs up ok, but it doesn't seem to take to my Triaxes as well as the 03; signals are well down in comparison, even when adjusting its clamp for maximum signal.
I haven't modded one of the ports yet, maybe it'll improve things then.

It's the other way round for me Llew, the 01 seems better on my Channel Master. I have yet to mod the 03 version though before I can be really sure.

Afterall non of these lnbs are designed to illuminate a standard offset dish ..
taller than it is wide..

The Direct TV dishes are oval arent they?

Could you mimic the shape on a European dish by putting Ka band absorbing material in a crescent shape top & bottom of the dish? (Something that could easily be removed if it didnt work)

I could do with finding a zone 2 type solid version. They are cheap enough in the States, it's the postage that is the killer!

Still waiting for my unit to arrive . Anyone tried one of these on a prime focus.
I'll be fitting on a 1.8 PF which in theory shoul provide enough illumination.
Also have an interesting "low look" dish , a wide offset type which was liberated from police HQ some years ago , it was used on a turntable to receive 2.4 ghz heli teli.
The profile of that dish is similar to the direct TV one......might try that.

I have in the last couple of days seen a mod for a gregorian dish, I might have to get the Fibo 1.2 back out. I wish we were coming into spring and not winter and dark nights, it restricts playtime

To be honest CJ it was someting I saw on the TeleSatellite site as a PDF document, I'll try and find it again.

...Your not on your own John, iv'e still got two separate orders which seem to have been sitting in the UK now for over two weeks and still no sign of them. :-(

Done some modding on the -01...but not locked anything on the vertical as yet ..
Could just be the signal from Newsnet office is as low as it can go..
skies clear and bright sunshine here.
Can't even get a lock on newsnet with the unmodded port ...and the nag feed (H) is only 4db ..ie very low ..
So I will leave the -01 on Carl and try later.
It could be low ka signal from 19.2E
It could be a poor match ..illumination wise..
It could be I have made reception worse by modding ..but I doubt this.
Anyway ..
As far as the modding goes ..
Septum removed on the left port viewed from the front.
Earthing strip on the pcb removed (both sides ..) the holes drilled out(copper rivets effectively...front to back of the pcb)
the resulting holes filled with epoxy to prevent water ingress..
The resonance chamber partition removed from the casting..
IE ..the usual mods ..effectively removing the H polarity..

Not a hint of Newsnet all day ..
Evening allowed a 2db lock of Penthouse 3D ....so similar lock levels to the -03 SL3 ....but only when scanning using H ...
No lock scanning with V..
Maybe this SL3 is below par gain wise ...ie sub standard ...
But I'm assuming Newsnet is off line today ...at least at my location anway.
I'll leave it on Carl until tomorrow ..as it's raining and cold outside...but looks like the 03 is a bettr match for my dish.

Bit the bullet and managed to get a pukka Direct TV dish at a good price without silly postage and import tax, so with this be any better? Who knows, but we have to keep experimenting.

Newsnet is on and has been all day with wildly up and down strength. Currently at 8.5db on the f15, stuttering video.

It's funny this 01 VS, I have to use Horizontal to get Newsnet and the other feeds, even though it's modded for vertical only!
