No such thing as a daft question mate, only daft answers. You may know that in the UK dishes have to be below the highest point of a roof. So, in order to see 1 west (commonly known as) you would need to have a wall mount and a pole which lifted the dish pretty high above your rear gutter but remaining below the roof line. Might just be ok but someone else will confirm. Alternatively you could 'hide' a dish at the bottom of the garden, facing the house. As always you need a clear line of sight to whatever 'bird' you are seeking.
