I agree with what you say however I suspect that it should have read freezing
point since that would be correct since the saltwater would freeze at a much lower temperature than fresh water due to the impurities

Since the Snopes' and the text I posted both originated from Emails, who is to say that one or the other is incorrect.
I would also point out that the very same error concerning freezing
point (above paragraph) also exists in the Snopes' text at the top
