The problems seem to originate from being 10 degrees out despite using a rangefinder compass. Subsequent difficulties arose from trying to rotate the 90cm dish and motor around the pole which was too heavy to move smoothly in conjunction with using the meter on the reciever.
I am still 10 degrees out and i dont really know how i was that far out with the compass. The motor reads approx 3 when i am at 13 degrees. But i'll leave it at that till the missus goes on holiday so she has her foreign TV till then. Once she's gone i'll have another bash to get it all perfect. |
Been away for a week, otherwise I might have been able to provide some input.
Magnetic pole variation means that you are quite close to the actual measurement if you had offset the compass
As a first-order approximation, the Earth's magnetic field can be modelled as a simple dipole (like a bar magnet), tilted about 11° with respect to the Earth's rotation axis (which defines the Geographic North and South Poles) and centered at the Earth's centre
