I bet she was using non-original battery. Btw, it's practically impossible to "explode" phone battery, even if overheating it in owen. It will just become big, make "pufffff" noise and release bad odour. The sound will be far far less, than any smallest firecracker available. Of course, temperature of battery will rise, even may to that point, that it will put surrounding items on fire. Also note, lithium inside batteries, once ignited, will not go off, when using water on it. You need C02 based fire extinguisher at least.
