With any single axis motorised setup, the general idea is that the pole is vertical yes. It makes the setting up process very much easier.

Depending on the dish size, that small mount might be Ok, with one of the large council pavement type slabs, but I think that with one of the standard domestic size slabs the dish could get blown over.


If it was for my own setup, I'd try it on a large slab to save spending out out on the proper mount, but for a professional job, stick it on the wall, or use the proper mount.
