Can anyone who knows anything about the law actually answer this question? It just seems a bit odd that sky aren't allowed to transmit hardcore material, yet anyone in the UK can get a set up very easily to recieve Hardcore from Hotbird etc. I have read the thread Ofcom adult broadcasting and R18 which goes into detail about what happend back around 2000/3, as I understand it, the "proscribing (banning) foreign services" has been abondoned. Did that mean people were prosecuted before then for recieving hard core programming from European satellites? However does that mean it is perfectly legal to recieve hard core services from Europe or have they been "decriminalised" or silently tolerated? Aren't being legal and being tolerared/decrminalised two different things? They are loads of online companies selling smart cards for channels like private spice and sex view HQ, which I presume means the govt gets a tax cut from every sale in the UK. Someone please shed some light. | ||

My System: TM 6900 HD Combo Super; 2 dishes; Astra1+2 and Hotbird, Hispasat; external DiSEqC switch. | I don't know the actual legal situation, but I take the stance that it wouldn't stop me subscribing to European porn channels even if it was spelt out to me as totally illegal. But then, maybe I'm foolish. Yes, of course I can live without them, but the risk of being caught/investigated seems very small. Maybe I am naive, though. The channel Extasi (or its former name) which was 'proscribed' was harder, I think, than any of the current channels. I didn't see it but I think it may have shown pissing on people and quite rough sex. | ||

My System: Samsung DSR 9500 VIA CI 90cm dish | It is not illigal to bview Porniography in the UK it is only illigal to transmit hardcore porn. Therefore all transmissions from non UK countriescan not be controlled by the UK Government. That is why it is currently not illigal to buy / sell hardcore porn subscription cards in the UK, because it is broadcast from outside of UK. | ||

| take a look at melonfarmers dot co dot uk to get a feel for the current state of censorship in the UK. From 26/1/09 possession (not distribution) becomes a crime. consider also that the government have given legal rights to minority groups who actually base their relationship on anal sex!! | ||

The man who killed that woman was probably looking at violent porn because he was that way inclined and he was going to do what he did either way, I dont think that seeking out these images will make a well adjusted person turn into a violent sex fiend. This mans arguement is probably the closest to my own opinion.
