Talking What can I get with my analogue decoder?

No this isnt a question thread. It's a answer thread.

Basicly because of the way the sattelites where back when the decoders were made, it stops them reciving some channels.

I know for a fact that the Amstrad SRD series are not capable of reciving anything over 11421 H (Nick).

I am asking for owners of other analogue recivers that CANNOT go over
11421 H to post them here. That way we will have a list of what can reciver what.

Any of the really old boxes designed for 10000MHz lnb's will have this problem when used with modern 9750MHz lnb's.

My System: Zone1, DSI8215 SkyHD, Thomson DSI4214, TF5000CI, Dreambox DM800 HD PVR - Nab BH0.12, TM-5200D, Gibertini 104cm, SNH-031, 36v Actuator, Vbox-II, 42°E to 30°W, Sling Media, Televes H45 Digital Processing Analyser, Satlook Micro+G2 NIT, Rover SDM 1s

Early Ku band 10.9Ghz - 11.7Ghz down converted to early receivers tuning range was 950Mhz - 1700Mhz using a 10Ghz LNb, all fell in place nicely.

Remember the frequency shifters used with 10Ghz LNb's when services started down on 10.7Ghz due to tuner range A/S ?

We sold a fair few of them at the time.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

I've probably still got one of them sitting in a deep box in the garage, along with a 22Khz switch, you can still get the 22Khz switches on the net, although Global don't make them anymore.

If my quick calculations with the current downlink are correct, using an early original receiver with a tuning range of 950Mhz to 1700Mhz mixed with a 9.75Ghz LNb, the receiver will not be able to see anything between 1700Mhz to 1950Mhz......

Yes, the ADX also shifted the higher transponders over 2200Mhz if not turned off, way way out of the tuning range of older receivers.

Universal, so simple now

So there is no way to shift the signals with a channel expander?

From memory, the channel expander can be adapted to shift LO up or down 250Mhz, so effectively expanding your tuner range by 500Mhz.

Yep, able to move 'IF' up or down by 500Mhz into a 950 - 1700Mhz tuner range

That's how I get my old Metrix VX600 analogue speccy to see above 1700MHz

It's a pain to convert the digital readout to the true frequency though. Never mind, I'm adept at recognising the satellites on the spectrum display

Real time display is invaluable though for anything new that may pop up on a satellite.

Probably not - TF1 is way off the top of the Astra 1 frequency range, and thats a pretty old receiver.

I think we used to get it 'just' with a.. er 'fix'.. when we supplied French channels to some properties years ago ..... I think it was quite noisy though.. visually and sound wise .. being so high.

If only there was a list on what receivers work/don't work with these high frequencies . Will a digital/anlogue combo box get them or are there some that do and some that don't ? I would than know for certain what to get and not waste my time and money .

what kind of fix?
i have a SRX 200 that sees little use and having the french channels would be quite nice

also there's a dish i realigned for an old french lady in my town that has an
LNB with the words TELECOM on it and looks to have a LO of 11.7 if my memories correct

High band LNB should do ... still might be low for TFI hence the noise above 12700- (have to look up my lnb freqs') ... we had a French tenant, an electronics engineer grad / student- he couldn't change a light bulb, but could er.. mess. (*seriously... he didn't know about bayonet fittings).

Well , i managed to make the amstrad get TF1 with the use af an ADX , the picture and sound is indeed very noisy and sparkly , but watchable . Will a proper receiver for this frequency show the same symptoms or show the picture clearly ?

You will get a better picture, although the French channels are notorious for having some sparklies on them

It might be worth scarting the signal through a dvd player / recorder if you have one - some of them are multi system and happily transcode the secam signals to UK PAL.

I can now confirm that the Pace prima and the Jvc tu-c200 work on TF1 with a few sound issues . i have set the left = 5.79 and the right = 6.37 and it's ok-ish . What frequencies shall i use to get the proper sound ?
