My System: Standard Sky Digibox and Metronic analogue receiver (made in 2008), receiving Astra 19.2E

I bought one of those metronic receivers - they are good, but as I mentioned in an other thread, the picture is very slightly soft.
Also, the pseudo-panda audio de-emphsis isn't wonderful (7 out of 10) and it can only tune to 5.80, 6.60, 7.02 and 7.20 audio subcarriers, so no radio!
I was annoyed by this as I wanted to listen to Sunshine Live on it

I managed to work out the basics by myself.
I will assume that you have a dish pointing at Astra 19.2E, with a single "Universal" type LNB, and no Diseqc switch - tell me if this is not correct(!)
As you probably know, the receiver comes pre-tuned for channels on 19.2E - presets are listed in the back of the manual.
So firstly, turn to one of these preset channels and look for sparklies.

If you can see both black *and* white sparklies, then your reception is poor and you need to re-align the dish.

If the sparklies are only black, or only white, then you need to adjust the reciever's offset - if you press "offset" on the remote, the display will show "A 00" for audio. A second press will show "U 00" - U actually means V, for Video. You need to fine-tune the Video offset using the volume keys, to optimise the signal quality. Once this is done, press the "mem" key using a ballpoint pen (the offset value is stored globally and affects all channels*). The display briefly goes blank to confirm the value has been stored.

Now, to tune a channel for Astra:
- select a channel preset
- select the polarisation of the channel using the H/V button (again U on the display really means V for Vertical)
- Press the Freq key once, then keep pressing the volume keys until UnLo is displayed - this means "Universal LNB, Low freq mode" (UnHi might work better for channels RBB and CNN only)
- Press the Freq key again, and key in the last 4 digits of the frequency with the number keys (eg for ZDF key in 0964)
- Press the Freq key again, and then keep pressing the Vol keys until 7.02 is displayed
- Keep pressing the AUDIO key until "St" is displayed
- Keep pressing the TB key (TB means Diseqc ToneBurst) until "Off" is displayed

You should now have reception of your desired channel on-screen. Press "Mem" to store it, then repeat the above steps for each channel you want to store.

Hope this helps.

* Actually it might only affect all channels on a given ToneBurst (TB) mode, rather than globally - I haven't checked yet

umm... teletext is decoded in the TV, not the satellite receiver!?
Any analogue receiver will pass the signals through.

the old analogue receiver had a text button. it was mainly eurosport teletext. but i think i got a way round it as although digital eurosport is encrypted on 19* the text service is not. so i will fit a analogue digital receiver which has digital text or the metronic and a seperate digital receiver.

There are no analogue receivers with text buttons, so it must have been a digital one.
Eurosport's standard teletext service can be viewed with an analogue receiver by pressing the 'text' button on the TV remote control.
