My System: Sky +... |
I've got the usual Sky+ setup feeding downstairs however I would like to get the Analouge version of Eurosport whilst its still there so I can watch Moto GP (hopefully) in my office. Feeding into the office up in the loft at present I have the original Sky satellite dish with a single LNB. I also have a Morgans Kingston diseqc 1.0 box (powers up and looks like it works) and a Uniden ust 7007 (untested so far). Would these work with the sky dish? The Sky dish is the same sort as the quad LNB one installed last year - would it need a different LNB to be able to work if pointed at the correct Satellite? First post so please be gentle, and not too technical as I am not au fait with this to any great degree. Many thanks for your time.

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | The sky dish won't work for Analogue on 19.2E because its pointing the wrong direction, and (before my time) most likely far too small as well. All the dishes I have seen that were previously used for analogue were about 80cm. So, an 80cm dish, new LNB pointed at 19.2E with your vintage set, should get you what you want.

Well with a correctly tweeked and tuned dish and correctly skewed lnb a 60cm should get you a picture but it may have sparklies in inclement weather. I used to watch 19.2East OK with my 60cm way back when. Don't forget with digital it is either there or not with analogue there is the possibility of still receiving a signal with a crappy picture

In the analogue days 60 cm was recommended for the southern half of the country, with 80 cm for the northern half. The newer sats are all of much higher power so a 60 cm should work fine anywhere in the UK except maybe during heavy rain. Even a 43 cm zone 1 should work acceptably if thats all thats available.

My System: Sky +... | Thanks people for all the info, much appreciated. So as I in the New Forest and thus very south I should hopefully just be able to point my dish at 19.2east and that may do the trick? Whats 'skew' mean in relationship to the LNB? Is that just another term for it pointing in the correct direction?

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | It is the 'twist' of the LNB in its holder. When the satellite is east of your location, you twist it anti-clockwise (from behind dish), vice versa for western sats. Dishpointer etc will tell you roughly where to set it, but it is normally done by adjustment for best signal.

My System: 43cm @ 19.2 with mVision USB PVR, 1.1m Fortec Star @ 5e and 1w with Kworld DVB-S2 Card and a Viasat receiver | Just so you know, I use a 43cm at 19.2 sometimes with a analogue receiever, I get VERY few sparklies unless its raining so your dish now will be fine.

My System: Sky +... | Ok now I am really confused. I thought I would check the satellites still recieving before I borrow my mates sat finder at the weekend, so I plugged in one of those vanilla digi box's Lidl were doing a few years back. Anyway first of it was saying Astra 28 east, so I did a chanel search and its got 1041 channels, mostly scrambled but... then I looked at the antennae option and it said Astra east 19 - so I switch it to that and it picks up over 1200 channels, and not in the same order as the earlier 1041 or indeed the same channels. Now its doing a search of Hotbird that looks different again. Whats this all about? I thought you could only be pointed at one satellite at a time? I guess I will have to wait for the weekend when I can borrow a satellite finder to ascertain where I am pointing at? Any explanations of the above woul be welcome though - am I living under a false assumption about directions and satellites?

Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | Many of the satellites share the same transponder frequencies, so when you point to one sat and scan a different one on the receiver, when the transponder frequencies are common between the two, it will pick up channels when you scan. But the channels you get will be from the satellite your'e pointing at. Check the channels you got, many of them will be the same ones.

My System: Sky +... | Aha thanks - so I wont know for sure which way I am pointing until I get the satellite finder on it? Although as there were most channels on 19 east could I infer from that its pointing that way? If so neitehr of the analouge box's I plugged in picked anything up, although that might eb the box's at fault.

Make a note of the channels you get and their frequency, and then cross reference against lyngsat's tables. Or look up the channels on kingofsat.

My System: Sky +... | All finally thanks to a friend and his Sat finder I have got on to 19 E and am recieving Analouge signals perfectly. Many thanks for all your help. I have English language Eurosport through the analouge reciever and what appears to be German language Eurosport through the digital receiver. Anyone know where I can get a schedule guide for them both? All I can find is British Eurosport...

My System: Sky +... | haha! yep well Ive been a bit busy is my excuse but now Im there - hurray! As Ive only got a single feed currently could I run one of those f-connector splitter things to feed the two boxes to save the cable swapping? Id probably not ever have both running at the same time, dont know if that would cause confusion for the lnb...
