Unhappy All 19E analogues off air by the end of 2012

SES Astra will terminate analogue TV distribution on its satellite system in three years’ time at the latest.

“Astra will say goodbye to the phase-out model of analogue television by the end of 2012,” writes Wolfgang Elsäßer, managing director of Astra Deutschland, in the cover letter of the September edition of the company’s newsletter Astra aktuell. “The way will then be free for television that’s new, more advanced and appropriate for the 21st century.”

My System: Triple Dragon with HDD/USB stick, Dreambox 8000, Humax HDCI2000, Echostar AD3000ip & SR8700, Aston Simba, RSD ODM300. Swedish Microwave 1.2 Motorised dish / Invacom C120 twin LNB driven by the AD3000. 3 other fixed dishes.

Seems a short timescale considering the number of national and local stations transmitting in analogue on 19E. I'm sure that'll upset a few diehard analogue receiver owners in Germany.

The big problem seems to be the number of analogue c&ble systems that take the channels off satellite & dont want to update their infrastructure....

In the home the split is about 74/26% digital/analogue now.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Slightly O/T on the specifics, but still broadly the same subject: Have there been any discernible rumblings about the French Analogues on 5W?

Just measured SWMBO's and it is 69cm high * 64cm wide

Takes a 6 degree Monoblock nicely.

(And before the purists witter, I know there are two bolts in a mortar course, but they were pre-existing and my risk assessment was that the loading would be insufficient to cause problems given that the other two are in engineering brick!)

Hmm, that seems reasonable enough, I suppose.

the next question would be,what all of us do with all the analouge receivers, after the swtich off?
keeping for memory,or put it in the basket, and say good buy forever!

does in brazil the also swtich off the analouge signal?
or not?

maybe we have to move to the rainforrest then, and our old treasures, came back to life

3 years ago i bought something in brazil on Ebay, the seller told me,we have not many digital channels, and for 27 analouge channel we need very larage dishes, does the situation changed in the meantime?

April 30th 2012 is likely to be the end of the era on 19E - ARD / ZDF have set this as a firm switch of date.

5W carries France 2, France 3, France 5, Arte , TF1 and M6.

But don't expect them to go on for the long term, either.

Edit: Drat that man got there first - again!
