Using Analogue box as digital signal finder

As many of you do, I have used my old Grundig GRD150 as a signal finder for various sats before then connecting or running through a digital box.

However this only works for me when there are analogue signals to find on the satellite (even DMACs will do).

Eventually this wont work anymore as analogue signals are fast disappearing.

However I seem to remember Analoguesat or someone saying they could detect digital signals with their analoge box (but obviously no picture) if tuned in to the frequency of a digital transponder.

Has anyone else achieved this, or is it only certain makes of box? Thanks

I've not tried to use it as a digital signal finder, but I have noticed that the fuzzyness on the screen changes when it comes accross a digital signal, hard to describe really, you have to see to understand what I mean....

As the digital signals are transmitted within an analogue carrier wave, it'll show up on a signal strength bar on an analogue receiver if it has one, or a blank 'signal' if you are tuned into a digital transponder.

Unfortunately mine has no strength indicator and just shows a black screen for no signal or a digital signal. It must be the make of box - its a Grundig 150. Never mind just have to use my digital box indicators or my cheap Lidl sat meter although they take more time.

My System: 90cm Dish. Dual Lemon LNB for 13E/19E. Twin Output Lemon LNB for 28.8E. Samsung 9500 with 'alternative' firmware. Couple of DigiBoxes. Amateur Radio station. Going Bald with a patient wife!

Ooooops - hopefully not rekindling an old thread - but you can work out where the satellites are from an analogue system as the 'background' noise level (on screen) changes - but you have to know what you are looking for. You can also use beacons on the birds but, again, they are often different I think per bird. Used to know where to find them but can't remember now....
