So what's gonna happen with HB1 ? Will it be moved to 48E probably ? Or sold anywhere to ? Ask myself also what the plans are for HB2/3 since HB8 is up now.

HB 1 is getting elderly - 48E is quite possible to run feeds for a couple of years.

Hottie 3 will be redeployed and go back into commercial service elsewhere although I havent seen any indications of where shes going yet.

Theres no indication Hottie 2 will be retired yet, although nothing would surprise me these days.

I see. Supposed you would have known anything for sure that Eutelsat hasn't mentioned officially yet. Well, let's wait and see then

Flysat confirms TVN analogue has moved over to Hottie 7A, so Hottie 1 is now off air. Its only a matter of time before shes moved off station now.

According to the Lyngsat sat tracker, Hottie 1 is now 0.5 dgrees inclined. No wonder Eutelsat wanted it off front line service as soon as possible.

Hottie 1 is parked at 13E and wobbling up and down off the broadcast orbital arc up and down half a degree off nominal orbiit. MSG 2 is parked at 0.5E and wobbling up and down three times as much. Imagine the satellites wobbling in an enormous figure-8 with the mid point of the 8 on the nominal arc.

More or less. The lifetime of a satellite is normally dictataed by the amount of fuel available for the stationkeeping thrusters. For the first 10 years or so of a satellites life, the thrusters are used to nudge the sat back into position. When the fuel gets low, its allowed to drift north / south off the arc - in the figure-8 mentioned earlier.

Once a sat starts wobbling (running inclined) more than about 1.5 degrees it starts getting far enough off the orbital arc that fixed dishes lose it for part of the day.

An elderly satellite can be used to run feeds - modern uplink and downlink stations have inclined orbit tracking which can follow the sat up and down.

One the fuel is down to the final dregs the sat is removed from the orbital arc and dumped.

My System: Technomate TM6900 Combo. 160G HDD 1.2Mtr Channel Master dish & Polar mount, T-REX/ Diablo CAM/ CAS3. Sony Bravia HD

I read somewhere that as they get towards the end of their life, they cut down on the auto positioning jets/compressed gas to only correct major drift instead of keeping them bang on the clark belt as this would use alot more of the fuel/ propelant.
