BOARD RULES: EVERYONE READ!!

Most of the following rules are no more than common sense, but they are not always adhered to. Time, therefore, to re-iterate the rules for using this board.
These are all intended to keep structure and order, making information easily accessible for all.

1.Post in the relevant forum.
For example, if your post is a question, then by definition it does not belong in the "news & announcements" forum, nor in "suggestions & feedback"...

2. Only post a given issue/question in one single forum.
Posting the same thing in multiple forums means no-one knows where to answer/respond, nor where to find that information in the future.

3. Use the board rather than email.
Often I am mailed/messaged with questions that could better be handled on the board - where EVERYONE would benefit from any useful information that comes out of the discussion. I also notice some people requesting on the board that they be mailed with various bits of information - which would again deny anyone else the chance to benefit from it. Please post preferentially on the board. If you have files you wish to share, upload them to one of the many upload sites and post a link to the uploaded file. It's all about making the information as widely available as possible.
By the way, I personally do not appreciate being mailed and/or messaged on issues that are also posted to the board (I prefer to answer ONCE - on the board).

4. Stay "on-topic".
This means that responses in a thread should be relevant to the original post. If you have an entirely new topic to discuss, start a new thread.

5. Use clear thread titles
There are too many posts with non-meaningful titles. This does not aid clarity, and means that there is no option but to open the thread in order to see exactly what is being discussed. Much better to be clear in the title about the issue. EG: "Problem programming 16f84" or "where is channel-xxx" instead of just "problem" or "help"....

6. Describe your problems clearly and completely
It's of loittle use just posting "my CAM will not pogram, please help", or "Why can't I receive channel-xyz any more". There are so many potential causes to such problems that much more specific information is required. Which CAM? What error messages are being generated? Did it ever work? etc.

7. Before posting your question, check old posts.
Most problems will have been met before and most will have been discussed on the board in the past. Use the search function to locate relevant older posts, and scan through the most relevant forum.

8. Do not post keys/codes.
Such posts are not tolerated on this board, and will be removed. Repeat offenders will be banned. The board is intended as an information exchange for satellite hobbyists, not a quick and easy way of getting free TV. Links to other sites carrying such information are permitted but note that we bear no responsibility for information at those or any other linked sites.

9. Advertising or promotion of pre-programmed smartcards is not permitted.
In fact, advertisments should be placed at the main http://www.satellites.co.uk site.

10. And last but not least... post, post, post!
The board is not simply a question & answer medium. We strongly encourage all posters to share any interesting news, tips, techniques, etc. Not just their questions & problems!

Thanks for your cooperation in keeping our board in order!

PS: And can we give that "*" thing a rest? I'm not sure why some people feel the need to write Ird*to instead of Irdeto (etc) but it's all a bit s*lly don't you th*nk...?
