ART/JSC cards last years

Hi all,
My mate has just offered me ART, Digitalb and JSC cards that he bought last year.
They have not been activated in anyway will they work for the full time as i thought a new encryption for these cards where out.
Also do they update automatically in a dreambox.
Thanks in advance.

There's a list of cards that work with a Dreambox/ CCcam here:

There is a chance that the shop may have activated the cards on the day they received the order. It happened to me with Cyfra+ card.
This means that although he hasn't used it till now, there is a remote chance that they are already or near the end of it's validation.
As regarding the new encryption system, you need to check the exact dates of when the old cards will become useless.
Try contacting the providers or buy new cards, unless the offer is for free and you can play with cards as you wish.
