Another connections Question

[Edited to add some details]
I have been looking for an answer to this for some time, without success.
I just got a Sony Bravia with built-in freeview; I also have a Manhattan Satellite receiver and a DVD recorder. I want to be able to:

+Record from the freeview (TV) or the Satellite receiver on the DVD recorder;
+Play DVDs;

The Manhattan satellite receiver has the following connections:
-R6: EUROSCART FOR TV
-R7: EUROSCART FOR VCR (for VCR or DVD Player)
-R8: VIDEO Composite video output for connecting to an AV monitor etc.

The DVD recorder has
-TV OUT scart
-EXT IN scart
-component out
-S-Vid out

The Bravia has:
-AV1 scart: audio/video in, RGB in, S-Vid in, analog TV audio/video out
-AV2 scart: audio/video in, RGB in, S-Vid in, audio/video out
-COMP: component in
-HDMI IN 1,2
etc.

My problem seems to be that I need to feed 2 inputs to my DVD recorder (freeview from the TV, Satellite from the Sat receiver), but it only has one input scart. I have been trying to figure out a passthrough scheme, but without any luck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There's no easy answer to your problem. Although your TV puts video and sound signals out it won't give a 12v signal to "take charge" as it will always be expecting the 12v signal from whatever equipment it's connected to.

I think you'll need a scart A/B switch and then switch manually from one source to another.

DVR Model

What is the DVR make and model? Please attach manual if you can.
I find it hard to believe that it has just one SCART input.
Check if there is a camcoder RCA connectors at the front flap, or anything else like an RF Modulator in-0ut connector.
If it really has just this one input, you can try an AB switch as suggested, but would mean that you would have to change manually, or buy a SCART box with at least two input SCART connectors and with remote activation.
Also if you have an old HI-FI VCR with two inputs, you can use it and with it's remote do the switching.

Have you tried shoving a scart output from a device into the recorder's TV Output?

Just confirmed this on my Sony DVD/HDD recorder, and the TV out scart is also an input.

EDIT, forget it, won't work, as you would not be able to record freeview.

Yep, that's the problem. You can't get the TV to take over the scart connection. The input to record Freeview has to be able to be selected manually.

Thanks for your reply HB13dish and apologies for not been more precise.
The DVR is a Samsung DVD R119 and has:
-Digital audio out (optical)
-Digital audio out (coax)
-Audio out
-video out
-s-video out
-component video out
-AV1 (TV) out scart
-AV2 (EXT) input scart
-RF in
-RF out

I don't mind selecting manually the input to record Freeview - it's the connections I cannot figure out...

Thanks

Checked the manual and just as I suspected, there is another AV connector at the front (AV3) which you can use to record from a camcoder, but is good for any other equipment like Freeview if it has an AV Out connector.
See attached extracted pages from the manual.
Also you can use the RF in connector to record from the Freeview out, but AV3 should give you a better video and audio quality.

I feel like a right idiot - how did I miss that?
Anyway, many thanks for your help and I will try out both the RF and the AV3 connections - and see which one is more convenient.

Thanks ever so much for your help - I'll keep you posted.

The AV3 is much better, it is just that seeing the cable at the front might not make the missus happy. But would be nice to have more than one option so do try the RF connectors possibility.
Just remember to choose the correct AV number when you record.
Your recorder model looks like a good choice. Enjoy.

For those who might have the same issue, here is how it worked out at the end.
Take a scart from the AV2 in/out of the Sony KDL-32L40xx and connect it to the SCART-IN of the R119 (so you record whatever is shown on the TV)

Take a scart from the AV1 in/out of the Sony KDL-32L40xx and connect it to the SCART-out of the R119 (so you can see view a DVD)

Then connect the composite out from the Satellite receiver to the Bravia's composite input - so you van view it on the screen.

So, the DRV will record whatever is shown on the TV screen (including the satellite). You need to manually change to input AV1 to view a DVD or a recording.

Many thanks to those who tried to help me.
