Humax PR-HD1000 Q

Hi all,

So, the HD1000 is an HD FTA receiver, fine. There is a badge on the cover that says "MPEG 2".

Do I take it from that that the HD1000 cannot decode H.264/MPEG4/AVC? Confused? All but the promo channels are in MPEG2 HD - the rest (Premiere, and ProSieben are in DVB-S2 - H.264 tralala) ...

Anything on this would be greatful.

mpeg2 means "mpeg2 too": it's a proper dvb-s2 and H.264/MPEG4/AVC receiver, perfectly suitable for Premiere hd but it can't receive BBC HD due to a bug (Humax HDCI 2000 works perfectly on BBC HD)

Don't buy it as it's designed for German Premiere and the first 100 channels are reserved for Premiere.

Some other annoying things.....

Funny that - dont recall the usual 'Premiere Geiegnet' badge: mind, at the time, I was more interested in why the box build looked so tatty-plastic.

But, Likvid, you are right

And just when I thought I might have struck newbie gold - now I wonder if there are any FTA HDTV STB's out there that are NOT tied to a PayTV operator, Doh!

Its probably not the right place to say that I actually like PACE's product design - but the poor sods are'nt considered worthy by most other serious STB aficionados.

The Humax HDCI2000 (save for the ommision of the Premiere card slot) seems a decent piece of kit; albeit a bit ropey in build.

The price difference between the Pace and Humax is extraordinary, don't you think? My price range would always be on the plastic side, hehe.

Haven't got the dosh to splash out just yet; but thanks everyone for the input so far.
