DVI to HDMI?

Has anyone tried to convert DVI signal from PC to HDMI on plasma using a DVI to HDMI cable?
I have a Pioneer PDP-427XA Plasma and my graphics card is Ge Force FX5200 with VGA & DVI output.
I bought myself a DVD to HDMI cable, but so far i have not been able to get any picture from DVI to plasma...Just blank screen.
I have a sky digital HD sat receiver connected to port 4 on plasma..no probs there.
Dowloaded the latest drivers for the graphics card from nvidia..I have dual monitor enabled on settings 1280x720 (60Hz)...
Nvidia control panel detects the plasma as "digital PDP-xx7X" but i couldnt manage to get more than a black screen through this DVI to HDMI connection..

When i run nvidia multiple display setup wizard, the software tries to preview the following definiton types
480p (enhanced)
576p (enhanced)
720p (High)
1080i (High)
BUT at the end of the test tells me the "preview not approved" for above types

Does anyone have an idea what i might be doing wrong here?

Works fine on Geforce 7950GT with Sony KDL-40W2000.

Running 1080p native.

You should have the options for the graphics mode within the driver or the control panel of the geforce graphics card.

tried all the options within the control panel of the geforce..still no luck..just black screen..
Although FX5200 is supposed to support HDCP maybe it doesnt...
Might look into replacing the graphics card and try again..

HDCP shouldn't be in play here as i'm guessing your just trying to get the video to display on the screen.

HDCP only comes into force with blu-ray and hd-dvd, and it still ain't fixed for anyone atm.

I'd try the lowest common denominator 640x480 and 50 or 60hz. and work up from there.

I have tried every possible setting there is on control panel without success..
There is just no picture transfered to the screen from the PC...
Control panel has a monitor setup wizard which tries different definiton types, this wizard tells me "preview not approved" for the tested modes..

Sorry to link out to other forums, but your best bet for this is either _www.avforums.com or _www.avsforum.com.

Ones UK the other US, they'll probably be able to help you more.

My System: PC Sony Sky receiver Sony KDL-40W2000 TV

PJ02,

I have the same TV as you but can only get it to display in 1280x720 or lower. My graphics card (ATI Radeon 9800) supports 1920x1080 but when every I set a res over 1280x720 the screen just goes bank.

I notice that on the Sony website they say that the KDL-40X2000 supports 1920x1080 over HDMI but ours supports 1920x1080 but it does not say on what connection type. I assume it means HDMI.

How did you get yours to display 1920x1080?

Thanks.

The TV only supports the higher res via the HDMI input, max size via VGA is 720p, or it's derivatives (would need to find the manual)

It's a known issue with the sony's. funnily enough the samsungs that run the same panel don't have this issue and support 1080p via the vga. It's only really an issue if you have an Xbox 360 with HD-DVD addon, as there is no hdmi output for it.

Anyway, use a DVI -> HDMI cable and it'll run the 1920x1080p no problem.

I currently have it connected via the HDMI input (AV4, also tried AV5) to the DVI output on the PC but it won't run anything over 1280x720. Any more ideas?

Try different refresh rates, i originally had problems getting 60Hz for downloaded HD movies, but a reinstall fixed that.

Go for 1080i first which would be 1920x1080 * 30 or 29Hz.

I would also suggest try not using any other monitor on the graphics card if possible. Set the screen to a res you know works, remove all other monitors off the graphics card then slowly increase the res.

well....thats a long story.....went and bought myself oneof the latest Nvidia chipped cards (with bells and wistles) but when i got home realised my Precission workstation only has slot for AGP so this new PCI express card was no good....must have gone to a dozen PC stores looking for an AGP card, finally found an nvidia 6200 that did the job.....
time to replace the PC now looking at new Dell Dimensions with core duo 2 processor....can you recomend a decent graphic card?

Typically i only do clone machines, i.e. no dell, hp whoever.

I buy a new machine probably every 3 years and upgrade as and when it's needed.

This time i've gone the full hog and bought core 2 duo 6400, 1Gb memory (christ it's gone up) 1.5Tb storage, and XFX 512Mb 7950GT enhanced version or whatever it is.

Geforce have the edge atm in regards mpeg4 / h264 hardware decoding which is why after being with ATI for so many years i've switch to nvidia.

If you on AGP still don't buy anything new until you go for a new machine, If you going for a new machine then best look at the 7950GT, the 8000 series have just come out so i'm sure the price of the 7950 will be coming down.
