So annoying when they change epg numbers, when I do a FTA install I always write a list of receivable channels and their numbers for the customer. And some of the number sequences are illogical eg itv2 is on 118 and itv2+1 is 184 where five us is 180 and five us+1 is 181.And I learnt all the FTA off by heart

Ideally, I think all timeshift channels should be broadcast alongside the primary channel, i.e.

109 UKTV Gold
110 UKTV Gold +1
111 Dave
112 Dave + 1

This is not possible because the EPG line-up would be chopping and changing all the time. Perhaps Sky should reserve the next EPG number next to each channel in case a timeshift version is launched?

I think it would be awesome if we, the subscribers, had the power to move channels around on the EPG. If this was to happen then I would move all timeshift channels alongside primary channels, and I would move all the crap to the bottom end of the EPG. The top end of my EPG would look something like this:

101 BBC One
102 BBC Two
103 BBC Three
104 BBC Four
105 BBC HD
106 ITV1
107 (reserved for ITV1 +1)
108 ITV2
109 ITV2 + 1
110 ITV3
111 ITV3 + 1
112 ITV4
113 (reserved for ITV4 + 1)
115 ITV HD
116 Channel 4
117 Channel 4 + 1
118 Channel 4 HD
119 E4
120 E4 + 1
121 More 4
122 More 4 + 1
123 Five
124 (reseved for Five + 1)
125 (reserved for Five HD)
126 Five US
127 Five US + 1
128 Five Life
129 FiveLife + 1
130 Sky One
131 Sky One HD
132 Sky Two
133 Sky Three

And so on and so forth.

I understand that we're getting a revamped EPG this year. Hopefully, new feature will be added to give viewers more control over the allocation of EPG numbers.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Moved these, as I thought the subject was worthy of its own thread.

I very much doubt whether you will get EPG number control, as it would seriously mess up the recording functions on Sky+ and HD boxes, plus, I can't see Sky allowing people to relegate their channels to the tail of the list.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 5 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/13E/16E /19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Sky wil NEVER allow people to move or delete channels off the master epg. You have to remember every channel is paying around £75k/year for their epg entry with a guaranteed 8 million potential viewers on the platform.

You have 50 favourites - I defy ANYONE to tell me they have more than 50 channels they watch regularly

.

Sky's own epg rules do not allow them to move channels around just so a few dozen people can have their +1 variants next to the main channel.

How would you like it if you ran The Donkey Appreciation Channel channel and 30 timeshift channels which had launched after you suddently zoomed up the epg and pushed you down 30 places?? You would be a bit annoyed to put it mildly. The only way channels can get the +1's next to the main channel is to either shuffle their own channels around, or to do a deal with the channel occupying the wanted number.

Until recently Sky did reserve the next epg number - they had to abandon it last Autumn due to the huge numbers of channels still wanting to launch and various sections running rapidly out of space...
