problem with overseas sky sub!

the weirdest thing just happened, all my Sky sub channels are suddenly gone.

i have a sky sub overseas thru an agent in the uk, has been 100 % reliable so far so shouldn't be a prob, plus the mthly fee was charged on my cc this week.

not able to reach my agent now, so was wondering if anyone might be able to help as to the potential reasons for the problem.

fearing the worst here of course, ie sky have cut me off having somehow realised this is a foreign sub, but are there any other options, like a problem with the box/card of some sort?

FTA channels working ok as is my setanta sub.

thanks for any help!

intro text and price of the channel - ie when you don't have the sub for the channel.

Ok, then you have a problem with your card being switched off probably.

My System: Home-Amstrad Sky Digi-box on 60cm dish. Bar - Pace Sky English Digi-box and Grundig Sky Eire Digi-box linked to a 2.4m Channel master dish with a single dual output LNB. Digibox for ART network on 90cm dish. Digibox for Digitalalb subscription. Di

I have had that before my card going off and usually it is because they want to charge you another admin fee to get it switched back on again.
I ended up getting a card through a family member as my sky card would go off once a year and then another month the setanta part of the card would go off and i was getting charged a 100 euro,s for each.

The company mentioned no longer list Sky amongst the cards they sell. This is almost certainly owing to the ongoing action by Sky to close down agents openly advertising Sky subscriptions for mainland Europe. The principal reason for the clampdown was not that the cards were being used out of the UK, it was provoked by a scam which had been running by a number of agents for years. The scam relieved Sky of huge sums of money and worked by cancelling cards after one year, then re-activating them in a way so that the agent was able to claim another new subscriber commission from Sky, which is substantial. Sky started to stop these payments just over a year ago and has put a number of major players out of business, who were turning over millions annually.

I have to declare an interest here, as the company I used to run in Madrid also arranged subscriptions. When it became clear the distribution agents were in trouble, we switched to a system only using UK addresses under the client's own control.
The best advice has to be to get a friend or family to arrange a subscription. Anyone who does not control their own sub via a UK address will probably have the card turned off at some point.
Previously Sky allowed the agents to register up to 10,000 subs at one UK address. They changed this in Spring last year to just 10 per address, just to make it difficult for agents.

One of the companies used over here was Clearview. All their cards are going off week by week, and the message is "this card is not authorised". Even ch4 and FIVE have gone off, which is most annoying. There are some cases of sky still taking money from customers after the cards have been switched off.
Has anybody else heard of or dealt with Clearview ?

Yes I know of this person, they / he is on the costa de sol installers most wanted list and apparently has a house here.

Even rumours of surveillance being set up to catch the owner.

lot of people paid subs up front for a year, guess what the cards went off very quickly. . . . . . . . .. . . .. . . . . .not good!

Why would SKY allow retailers to register that many subs at one address? Isn't that just indirectly asking for these "agents" to sell extra subs outside the British Isles or maybe that's the whole point?

I didn't say that Sky didn't know what was going on. The agents just got greedy.

well, just to conclude on my problem, my agent sorted it out very quickly and all working fine again now. we don't really know what the problem was, must have been some sort of a problem with the signal?

It wasn't the signal, the channels will have been deliberately turned off by Sky and have now been re- activated. Glad it's now working again.

So a lot of unhappy customers all over Europe.Every week a few more get switched off. Why couldn't s*y turn a blind eye to it,they must be switching of hundreds and in turn earning less money.

Events elsewhere may be dictating what happens with subscriptions in mainland Europe. Search on Google for "Karen Murphy v Media Protection Services Limited" or 'Karen Murphy v Sky'.
Our favourite overpriced satellite broadcaster decided it had to clean up its act in order to win the case.

Bummer, the same here. Since this August I also have no sub on my Sky Uk card. I got the card from a company in Cadiz, Spain. Unfortunately I have no family or friends in the UK. Missing my UK channels every day! It's a bloody shame...
