Should the Latest News from 28E thread be info only?

Trigger made an interesting point in this thread yesterday. He suggests the thread is made read only so it just gets the latest channel & frequency & channel news from 28E, with any discussions to be made here in the main 28E section.. News Ive missed posted by other contributors could then be merged in by one of the mods.

So heres your chance to discuss it & vote on it. Im cool either way. If you use the news thread regularly please vote & / or comment.

The admins decision is final BTW!

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

I voted no. Reason being that sometimes there might be something very relevant that someone has to say. If it isn't relevant then the post can be cut away.

Edit

There is an argument that we should perhaps be a bit more rigorous in policing the thread. Perhaps something along the lines of "Information on changes only please - discuss changes in the 28E section."

from me a 'no' too - it's not because of one moron spilling the beans that everybody needs to suffer the consequences.
useful, on-topic posts should be allowed for anyone, as before.
we could add a warning post that we're gonna kill any bro or sis making off-topic comments having dumb phrasing in them :-)

I give you a NO vote here cause what if some one has something to say on the last thread posted then they should be able to say there piece isnt this about freedom of speech or in this case typing???

Of course its not about freedom of speech snurgenator - all Im asking is if folk want the thread to be info only to stop it getting sidetracked with other discussions that would be better served elsewhere in the subsection.

In any case there is no freedom of speech on a privately owned forum - anything can be removed at the staff discretion for any reason - so if the owner took exception to this discussion he would be quite within his rights to remove it

I like to think that I add interesting and helpful comments at the time when AS made his observation, when it has caught the attention of interested parties.
Eg when I replied to AS obs on Ch4 going, I did not know another thread had started about Ch4. I got a message in my outlook express inbox stating that "analoguesat has replied to a thread you have subscribed to" so I click on the link, read the post and then react.
What you could do is divert the reply to another thread/section but at least we know where it started from.

Almost a dead heat - 7 votes to 8!

Admins decision is that we will leave it as is for now, but moderate the thread harder in future to remove off topic comments & questions.

I'll reconsider the point when I open up the 2009 thread in January.

Thread closed - its served its purpose.
