sky tv subscription charges

HI, Members

I am writing on behalf of a friend who needs help with the following difficulties he has been facing with Sky.

Basicly he has been paying extra towards his monthly bill, an extra £35 for not having his box connected to the telephone line.

to my understanding you are required by skys terms & condition to have the receiver connected only for 12months.

he has been paying this extra amount for over 2 years and has withheld his payments, now he is receiving solicitors letter demanding payments.

is there any advise i could possible pass on to him??

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 5 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/13E/16E /19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Does he have multiroom? If so he has been billed for 2 subcriptions if one or both boxes hasnt been connected to the phone line.

Multiroom requires BOTH receivers to be connected to the SAME phone for ALL TIME - so tell him to pay the bill.

If he only has one box then the phone line can be disconnected after a year and he has grounds for complaint

£10 additional box = multiroom

Therefore he has no case whatsoever as he has broken the T&C's of having both boxes connected to the same phoneline for the entire length of the multiroom agreement.

Tell him he is lucky he hasnt been billed £45/month extra

My System: Sky Freesat in UK, Astra 1 ana/dig in UK, Astra 2 South Beam in Spain.

Just over 2 years ago, I decided to take up an offer including Sky sports or movies at half price for one year. I was told that I had to have a phone line connected to what was my own equipment. I already had a second hand digibox and dish that I had acquired privately. I refused and said it was not necessary. Reluctantly they agreed. I was also told that I could ring up and alter my programme selection at any time. When I tried this they said if they changed the lineup I would have to pay full price!
My reply is not printable. I cancelled the direct debit and informed them of my actions. They threatened me with legal action as I was "breaking my contract". I asked them - what contract - I had never signed anything, it had all been set up over the phone. Eventually, they backed off I even received a letter of apology (of sorts) from them.
The moral of the story is don't let the buggers grind you down!

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

If he hasn't got the second box connected to the phone line, then he has to pay the full rate for it for as long as he has a subscription, there is no 12 month cut off.
