too much advertising and comercial breaks on the sky channels!?

Hello!
can anyone explain me,why sky is the only pay tv operator,in europe, that has so many comercial breaks?
up 4-5 times in a serie, and more in a movie!
with advertising you make money, for sure, but with over 8 mio customors ,i would mean, sky with out advertising, should also be posible!

other pay tv operator, can do this, with only the have of subsribers!

it looks like american free tv,always when a breaks come, you zapp the channels, untlil the next break is coming!

the only postive think, the eglish,or scandenavian advertising, are sometimes funny to watch, full with ideas!
in german television, advertising is very lonly, because, its every day the same!

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

The reason in one word?

MONEY

They get paid by the subscribers and they get paid by the advertisers. In fact, in order to stop people channel surfing during the adverts they synchronise all advert breaks across their platform so that you can't excape.

As for the amount of advertising they squeeze into each hour that's down to the length of the programmes that American TV companies produce - currently 42 minutes per hour I think.

If he were not a wizard, from head down to the root, you would have got to worry-your DB only boots

The amount of adverts per hour is regulated by law. Google will find the details; a forum search probably will also. Unless satellite regulations differ from terrestrial?

I apologise for not using any commas...

Hello Paul !
thanks for your intresting fast reply!
very intresting news, the sychroneized the advertining,i dont know this, very "good"i idea in the view of the advertiser itself!

best way to escape advertising in germany channels is pro 7, because there is a delay of around 3 minutes each channel, first you beginn to watch on pro7 switerland, then wehn advertising is coming, swtich to pro 7 germany, and then to pro 7 austria, because there is a delay on every channel, the time, you watch the advertinsing is so short us posible!
in this posting i want to give some times, how it "works" on other channels! in difrent countrys
hope that is okay,if not,i can edit my post no problem!

but there are also ways,to remove the advertising during a record, works automaticly on some dvd recorders, and even on old grundig vcrs in a secret service menu!
then they are also (selfmade)advertising remover systems, that download from the net,the information, when every channels, sends the advertinsing!
record stb/dvd recorder, get this information, and then it stop the record!
the inducator for that,is mostly the cinema scope picture swtich to full size picuture, and also, the loader sound then in movie!

was watching tv,in usa,when i was on viacation 3 years ago,in florida,it was horrible,iam happy,that we have here in europe,the choice ,to choice !

in nationaly state radio drs,of switerland, advertising,is forbidden ,only on private radios allowed!

okay now back to sky,i only want to give some background information how to "escape" the advertising!

when i was a child i like it,to see new products every day,to find out, what is good and taste good, espasly in food and what now,now i always change, the channel when advertising begin, but maybe its sometimes better,to swtich off the tv set!
okay,good night!,until tomorow @ this place

My System: Sky Plus V3 TDS 470n, Pace 2600CI, Thomson Sky HD, Technomate 1000D, Prodelin 1.8m dish + Invacom Quad C120, CM feed, Lacuna/Wolsey V3 meter

It's an outrage that sky's pay TV channels still have advertising, they should have none at all.
sky Movies are shown uninterrupted.

My System: PACE 430 (Radio Reception only to feed a SKY Gnome), PACE 3100 (PVR 2.5), ROI SKY 6 mixes, Technomate TM-1500 CI+, TM-6900 HD, 100 cm Triax (Sky), 80 cm Nokia with Motec SG-2100. MacBook 2.4, MacBook Air 1.8, iMac G5 2.1.

Is it just me, or has it gotten worse over the last few months? Some channels are worse than others and the advert slots seem to be longer than ever before...

The more advertising one gets bombarded with, the lesser effect it will have on the consumer...

I might be wrong, but i think when bsb and sky started they were allowed longer advertising time than itv/ch 4 to help them become profitable, at the time subscriptions wasn't really an option.

Hello Turok,
Nice thread you have created here about advertising breaks.
I mentioned before about this:
Advertising Time Frequency and Duration in TV Channels
What I usually do when I sense an advert break is coming up, is reach for my remote faster than thunder (tried faster than lightening but I am not fast enough) and put the volume on mute, instead of zapping to another channel.
Apparently it is the sound (speech and gingles) is what drive me nuts, but I don't seem to mind the picture.
I believe that advertising breaks is causing excessive consumption of water, as viewers tend to go to the toilets more often, even if they don't really need to go. Anything but not watch the adverts.

Just remembered why I really hate advertising.
After watching so many adverts over the past few years, I got brainwashed and I ended up with a huge stock of ladies tampons.
You see all those lovely young ladies smiling and so happy go lucky, so I figured out it is something that is supposed to help me become a happier person.
The problem is they never show you what to do with them.

yes,its always coming the same, there are not much invations..

the only postive think hb13,is in swtiching fast between the channels, you training your refects, but when you watch a movie, you cant enjoy them when always breaks between
spanish taquila channels,

brings car advertising,1 minute before the ppv movie will beginn, but all others,is not fair,i would not say something, when sky would be cheaper then, mut most people, pay for pay tv,because of the fact that it should have a non advertising programm..!

sky might be bad, but it's nothing compared to "Direct TV" from the USA. More breaks than a Kit-Kat factory. What makes it worse is that they show "BBC America" in their line up, jeez Gordon Ramsay must be raking it in with the amount of times his shows are repeated, each episode on at least 6 times per week and when the series ends, it's repeated again!!. If this is the best the Beeb can for program variety, I think I'll take up watching paint drying.

i have tested direct tv,3 years ago in south west florida, the used video guard decoders made my mitshubishi

the have many man ppv channels where you can order around 100,but the wrestling fights 24,95$ each fight are very expensice, and the double then on premiere for example!

since murduck boght around 15% of premiere,he also lost some milion € ,.because premiere is out of money now, after 3 years,of free view on nealry every emu stb!

and the stock runs down!

does anyone know, how much one minute advertiding coasts?
on sky,on orf, around 1500€ each minute, and before, the news is coming on 19:30 this minutes coasts around 2500€ up to 3000€
maybe other pay tv operators, change also soon, the the advertising modell of sky, then this beware ,them form the complete bankrott, when the not enough paying customors!
thats the other side of the medale!
