Rumours, rumours and more rumours

There ia a buzz on some forums about a sky h a ck, as far as I can ascertain there is no h a ck, but a release of certain information regarding the logging of the Eeprom.

This could be an advance, but does not mean a hack is close, add to that the fact that sky are replacing the viewing cards and all could come to nothing.

More than just a logger/info Big R, i HAVE IF FROM THE HORSES MOUTH (admin) at other board by email, that its gone (hacked smashed. opened, ruperts been anally abused,) and this is on the
NEW cards, and even they are not brave enough to post the files.
Its go straight to jail dont collect £100 in the uk if you publish files,
and there all over my head anyway. altogher 4 diff files (makes it go) but also a reciever/device has been made (rumoured) that opens all and can never be switched off, Brave peep if they were to sell that over here. Ive no need for sky, it`ll be just another reciever/BOX under me TV, (THAT`LL B 6 THEN) she`ll kill me. BUT U KNOW ME, i`ll try anything once ,so tomoz i`ll see if i can get workin. DAVE.

Interesting Dave, it'll be interesting to see what transpires.

Tell me guys is any of this stuff i found out new or old news:

This what an sky installation engineer had to say:
When i asked him if he could subscribe to sky instead of me and send me the STB and an activated original card.
Since I'm not an UK resident.

Quote:

1/ yes it can be done, but the only prob is ,that sky require you to be
plugged into a phone for the first 12 months rental.

the reason for this is to do with the online shopping etc, the companies
online sponser sky by paying half costs for the s.t.b
set top box.

however we could give a address over here to subcribe to and activate the
card via the dial up modem, which is how sky activate the cards.

there is a menu we can as engineers open up and it lists the details of
the card version, soft version and so on.

the way a card is activated is it is paired to the box via the boxes chip,
ie serial no of box and card serial no.are paired together on dial up
this may be interesting for you to look at.

that is why no other card will work with another box. ,

i think if we could interrogate a box and change the eprom to the serial
of an active card you could clone the boxes so that they all have the same
serial no.

i think its the box that holds the key.

End Quote:

Thanx for your input guys.

Hi Pipi,

Not really of any use as far as I can see, the cards (sa of yet) are not easy to clone, if possible at all, so being able to change the ESN on the box is really not particularly useful.

Anything to do with a " sky hack" is just rubbish, N-D-S is just too secure to even attempt to break open, plus it's usually backed up by a "My mate's sister's boyfriend's dad's wife's cousin has got sky for free with some software" excuse to make you download whatever it is and you find out it's just one of those internet streaming things which are mostly just a pile of poo...

There's always a rumour going round, but nothing ever comes to light about a hack, if you want sky you'll have to pay for it...

A working hack would be all over every sat forum in a matter of minutes. Dont believe it until one of the senior members on this forum posts to confirm its working.

(Its about time another rumour came round - its about every 3-4 months they come up )

You've only got to look at the second post in the thread, a member was categorically told that the rumours were genuine and on the new cards, yet we now know categorically that it wasn't.

Rumours tend to be self perpetuating, as people repeat hearsay as fact.

whilst i agree it seems very unlikely, alot of boards do not alow speak of sly. So why a mod of satpimps\satdudez would all of a sudden make a sticky saying not to speak about the it seems strange.

here is a copy of the post

sky plus box hack

Just to remind the members.

There are to be no files or links to download sites of any sky h a cks. Nor can we have any discussion of files that have just been released on other boards.

please read the rules.

we have to be tough on this one sorry.

Well heres one explanation:

Many forums are running scared at the moment after 2 members of Modshack were jailed for c*ble hack talk. sky UK have access to some very good very expensive lawyers, so most forums dont allow discussion of the subject.

We dont mind generalized discussions, as we know its never been commercially hacked, and we keep a very careful eye on whats posted.

There will never be a major hack of this provider. Do you seriously think that it would be allowed. Also do you not think they already know where any potential security issues are. If they are found then they will move on to the next version and cruicify (or employ - LOL) anyone they find behind it. As Analogue said their lawyers will be "bigger and better" than any hacker can afford.

Stay safe and the right side of the law

Cheers

Well said trig

I guarantee NDS have at least 2 more variations of their encryption ready to roll should the version of NDS used in the UKfall open.

I hope it never does fall - as it would be a disaster for the forums - can you imagine the chaos if several hundred thousand joe publics all started demanding "give me free football" at the same time?

My mate (here we go again) works for the army, and is very high up in the cryptography department or whatever they call it, breaking codes.
I asked him a couple years ago if he would look into cracking NDS. He looked it up for about 30mins and then said "no chance".
Apparently he was trained by one of the best "hacking" experts in the world, but, some Israeli, guy invented NDS apparently and he said the he is the best in the world and there will be no way to crack it.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

Can't see it happening as they both pay $ly for the privilege and there are no doubt contracts involved.

No chance. Ofcom would throw a fit - the psb channels are guaranteed their places on the epg by law - which is why sky Onc isnt on 101

I thought so too. I know bbc paid a lot of money to be in the epg line up, but was it a contract for a certain length of time or for ever?
