Stand Alone Hard Drive Recorders & Sky

Hi

can anyone tell me which is the best Stand Alone Hard Drive Recorder for recording sky and any that i should avoid. I want a stand alone rather than sky+ as I do not wish to go down the route of premium subscriptions

thanks in advance
Rikk

I use TIVO which is certainly the best in terms of software. You would also need to get one from E-bay as they are not currently sold in the UK.

One word of warning on the complete subject - when High definition TV starts (next year?) many of the current batch of HD recorders may not work.

I am very pleased with my new Pioneer DVR 520 - it's nice to have the added DVD recording capability, although I mostly just use the HD for videoing and timeshift. In the UK you could use it for terrestrial reception as well.
What a shame that the Topfield is only for FTA (UK programmes at least) - the quality of reception (and recordings) on that puts any Digibox to shame, even if it is a bit quirky to set up..

My System: Sky+ v2 (120Gb); DM7020Si*motorised; PC/S2-3200

As I was paying top whack anyway, sky+ was not an eye-watering option for me (and with the £10 charge, I wasn't going for it).....but I have to say dual-record is the trump card for this box.

What package are you on right now?

if you are paying for 2 premium channels on sky, then you wont pay anymore for sky+....

you only pay the extra £10 a month if you are subscribed to the value or family pack
