BBC Prime - no reception today 1st Feb 2009

I cannot decode the BBC Prime signal today.

I have the correct card inserted.
Is it a BBC problem, or have I screwed up somewhere??

Is there a channel?
I would have suggested to open the teletext which is FTA, but they have stopped the transmission few weeks ago, except for the note that there is no teletext (which is good enough just to confirm that there is a channel)
Also you can click the button to set which subtitle and see if there is any language selections.

Yes there is a channel.
The Text page, saying there is no text still comes up...

The move is not until March.

Yes. I confirmed this last night also.
Check your subscription finish date. You may have a 12 month subscription, but I read few days ago that you need to use a hardware Viaccess CAM to get the correct validity of the card. The emulators will give you a much shorter validity.

The subscription is 12 months and only about 4 have elapsed.........

Will try reloading the emulator, or a different one.

I have canned the Pli image on my cf card and totally re-installed the image on the HD, including scam.
So all my changes have gone.

Still cannot decode BBC Prime, so I conclude it is a BBC problem.

Can anyone confirm this deduction??

As already stated even if it is a 12 month Viaccess 3.0 card you will need to put it into a genuine Viaccess cam to get it to update for the full 12 months. You will probably find you will need to do this 3 or 4 times in the 12 month period.

I had the same problem with my JSC Sports card

It was cheaper for me to sell the card than buy a new cam

Apparently BBC refresh their subscription cards at the beginning of every month and "patched" receivers can't update so the card has to be in latest version viaccess cam or receiver with embedded viaccess. I checked someones' bbc prime card just today and it worked in an x-cruiser receiver, after being out of a receiver since Friday.
I thought a JSC sports card was a countdown card and once activated will continue for 12 months?

So did i. It still requires to be put into an official Viaccess cam to get the 12 months out of it though.

My Dreambox only saw it in 4 month periods . Every time it was put into a viaccess cam it updated to 4 months again

In which Satellites is BBC Prime available? Is this the one that has Formula 1 and MotoGP coverage for the 2009?
Thank you.

Currently BBC Prime is on Hotbird at 13E, but moving to Eurobird 9E in March.

Hotbird does handle Aljezeera Sport, with F1,
not sure about MotoGP

Checking prices a Viaccess CAM costs almost as much as a subscription to BBC Prime for a year........

A Viaccess Red CAM costs about 40 pounds. Check our site sponsors websites. Remember to order it without VAT (15% less) from the UK.

I have checked out the sponsors and am not impressed.

HDTV is the only one that lists the Red Viaccess CAM.
When I fill in the details for an order, there is NO rebate of VAT.

Cost 46 pounds plus 35 shipping, to say nothing of clearance here........
Way too expensive.
More than a years sub for BBC Prime

Try Sateuropa. I checked their price before I posted this morning 39 GBP including VAT.
In the comments or customer's note, request VAT deduction.
Use Standard EU delivery at 7.5 GBP

They might give you a hard time with payment by credit card, depending on your location.
But check first if BBC Prime new encryption can be opened using the Red Viaccess CAM.

Just a though. Did you try to get the authentication using the Starsat receiver? Once it gets the validity extended, you can check it in the Dreambox 7020S.

The old BBC prime used Viaccess 2.5,
the new signal will be Viaccess 4.0.

Will the same CAM work??

I have sold the old Starsat receiver, but may be able to find someone to help me....
Most of the receivers here are purely softcam, no cards.

Googling around I cannot see any references to Viaccess 4.0,
only Viaccess with MGEG 4.
Not quite the same thing.............

Has anyone seen 4.0 before,
or is it just the BBC who does not know what they are doing????

According to my usual card supplier the only reason it doesn't update correctly in a softcam is Viacess trying to stop card sharing

Can't see that one working

Just wondering if one can get a refund for the remaining subscription period as a result of this move.
Isn't it a breach of contract to change the satellite and to ask subscribers to "just move your dish to 9E"?
After all, at the time of signing the contract, one puts his faith that the service is transmitted from a certain satellite and not from any other satellite that the provider may choose within the subscription period.
Also, are they offering any compensation or extra viewing period, just to make subscribers happy?
Quite honestly, if this happened to me, I would cancel my subscription and demand a refund.
After all, the channel's content is just a continuous repeat of what they have shown all the past few years, with the occasional "new" title.
Just to hear English language in the background is simply not worth it.
