Thumbs up Walrus1957 Scalar on Prime Focus Dish

This Scalar Cone set was designed for small offset dish on C Band. It performs much better then commercial conical Scalar rings. I tried it on my Prime Focus C Band dish and gained 6 SQ over the flat Scalar ring that came with the LNBF.

Talking Walrus1957 Scalar Cones Construction

Very simple and inexpensive to make.

You can use aluminum roof flashing which costs about $10 USD for a large roll and has a nice springy nature and can be cut with scissors.

90mm ID X 260mm OD outer cone.
90mm ID X 200mm OD middle cone.
90mm ID X 140mm OD inner cone.

From the inner cone space the second and third cones 15mm apart on the slip sleeve.

Wrap the LNBF with a single layer of material 45mm deep to make a slip cylinder to attach the cones to. You can use super glue gel.

The LNBF will move closer to the dish with these cones peaked.

I know that but in the 1st photo on post 3 you can see a bit cut out of the rings to make the conical shape but it does not say how much to cut out.

How much to cut out? When you make a ring and form it into a cone on the lnbf throat, it will overlap. Just decide how much material you need to make a lap seam and cut the extra away.

This cone Scalar works best on a 1-meter or smaller dish of offset design. Depending on the f/d of a 1.2 M dish a flat Scalar may work just as well. On an elliptical dish it will illuminate the smaller aperture only. But by trimming away the sides to form an elliptical horn the entire dish may be illuminated. On a 1m or smaller dish moving the cone Scalar in or out tunes specific TP's. This device makes the dish highly reactive and a signal of resonance (amplification) can occur making no signal jump to a high SQ. On some applications a fourth cone may benefit the overall gain. The last cone may benefit by being spaced at 7 mm away from the third cone.
