My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

According to this site, the CAM cannot be programmed with a Laptop. Why do you want to change the software?

Assuming that you have an official smart card, is it possible that the problem is due to the provider ?
Also, maybe the receiver is faulty.
Can you try the CAM in another different receiver with CI slot and see what happens ?

I fried my CAM once when I tried to update the software and I don't want you to lose it also.

I also switch off my receiver for different cards and it doesn't bother me.

The main thing is that you can still watch your favourite channels by switching on and off.
It is up to you if you want to risk it, but as rolf mentioned, don't use laptop.
Maybe you can update it by leaving the receiver on a certain channel. Check the internet.
I updated my red Viaccess CAM by leaving it on a certain channel.

Update:
I read that to upgrade your CAM to version 1.10, you need to use Nokia 9600S receiver and a PC with either Windows 95 or Windows 98 and use a SCSI card and a SCSI cable to connect between the PC and Nokia Receiver and the software.
The problem is that the Nokia 9600S SCSI connector is subminiature and you need a suitable cable to connect to it.
Unless you can prove to yourself that upgrading to 1.10 would solve the problem, there is no point to waste your time to do all the upgrading process.
Can you find such a CAM and borrow it just for few hours ?

If you have a second receiver with CI slot and another IRDETO CAM, you can leave the two cards in all the time. You may need to add a DISEQ, but that is a very cheap part.

Another possibility is to send the CAM to a specialist who will upgrade it for you for a fee. Few years ago, there was such a shop in the UK.
