My System: Humax and Echostar receivers, Dragon, two dishes, one fixed 100cm dish pointing at Hotbird, and a 90cm motorised dish; plus a rubbish DVD recorder and cool DVD players, and lots of cables!! Oh, yeah, and a video recorder - best invention yet!!
Red Viaccess cam updated itself!

I have a red Viaccess cam which I bought to watch Ultra Blue around two years ago.

After my 12 months subscription was up, I didn't use it anymore because I was using my patched Humax 5400Z to get all the channels I needed.

Then last week, I dug the cam out and decided to use it watching BBC Prime in my breakfast room. The cam didn't work. So I tried other Viaccess cards on it and it still didn't work. Basically I thought maybe some moisture had got to it and it was ****ed.

Anyway, this morning I was fiddling about and put the cam in my Echostar whilst it was on the scrambled porn channel DPTV.

Then a funny thing happened. An interface came up and said "downloading in progress. Do not remove cam." I was a bit worried. So I removed it.

Then after a cup of tea, I went back, built up some courage, and put the cam in again. The same download message came up!

This time I left it in. All sorts of funny words came up like "RarII in progress. Module in preparation". It then said. "Remove cam and switch off and turn on your receiver. Re-insert cam." I did this and guess what???

It actually has DPTV on and I am not subscribing to it!!

Plus, I can get BBC Prime on this cam now!!

What the heck is going on???

Just as an experiment (purely for technical reasons) I have a red module somewhere in the back of the drawer. Ill put it in later and let you know what happens.

Theres not much on DPTV that could be considered 'worthwhile', even when its free.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

If it has upgraded to DPTV, then it will probably also get 247, that's how the Reality CAM upgrades.

Just to say, DPTV has now gone off...

BUT the cam is still upgraded and can accept cards and channels it never did before. Question, who is providing the update software via the satellite download?????

Cheers, DB.

Tried it, and while the CAM was in 20-40% updated, the DPTV came in clear.
Now its fully updated the channel is now unavailable. I would assume that in the partial update you carried out first, you managed to get the CAM to act as an Omnicrypt, or Reality CAM, where a card is not required for the channels on 12092 MHz.
