Working w/ a CI FreeCAM 2.017 ?

Is card programming rcvr specific (when working w a CI CAM) ?
Before I buy the cheapest & simplest rcvr w/ ONLY a CI to go w/ this CI CAM - I'd like to know if the programming of cards (on a borrowed Millennium programmer) is rcvr specific and therefore are there some makes or models that should be more strongly considered or avoided ?
