Any Mac experts?

Hi,

My niece has 'lost' all her documents which were on her Macbook. If she gets a USB HDD are there any cheap disk recovery progs around (that work)? Or is there any chance that the Mac would boot from a Linux live CD to allow data to be recoevered?

Thanks

My System: DreamBox 7000s - Nokia Freeview - Several GameBoys - DS Lite - ZX81 - SNES - N64 - Sega Saturn Dreamcast - PlayStation - Gamecube - PSP - iPod - iPhone - XBox - PS3 - Wii - No Life!

Need more information.

What happened for her to lose her data?

If she hasn't done anything since, and the hard disc is OK then chances are she will get her data back.

Just re-install the OS disc and don't do a clean install.

or

Maybe she has just renamed her folder - mount as admin and name it back...

I'm trying to find out the full story. Story relayed by not-tech mother from non-tech daughter :-(

A follow up.....she claims that she was told by Mac helpline to format the disk and start again. I've told her the files are probably still there but she's unlikely to do anything about it. Thanks for suggestions
