Booting problem

When I switch on my pc it sometimes lights the green light and no more. I then have to switch it off with the on/off button located at the back of the case and then press the start button again. This time it will boot ok.
I have formatted the hd, installed XP, vista and even Linux, but still it persists. Any ideas anyone ?????
I was told it could be the power unit on the blink.

Well

Yes I have to agree with them it does sound like the PSU is on its way out, if the interlock does not sense everything is OK it will not allow current to flow and power up the equipment. It is often as a result of too may addon devices exceeding the capabilities of the supply at startup, if every USB device is plugged in when it happens take something out and see if that helps.

I think this may help:

pulloff ac power cable

pull off rams from slots &clean them with dry (soft) thing (to realese dust)

fit them again

check hdd cable(power&data) cd or dvd cables

try starting your pc

He means that you should physically unplug any connected devices so as to reduce power consumption/load on the PSU.

Thanks CF that is exactly what I mean, I was round at someone's house today and he had 4 USB devices connected all the time an extra HD and 2nd Optical drive. Unless you have a 500w or 600w supply they should be unplugged when not being used......
