Anyone using basic Orange Broadband?

A friend has this with Speedtouch USB modem on W98 PC - Yes, I know. Since installing the software the PC regularly complains of disk write errors - but chkdsk doesn't report any errors, and when the PC starts it tries to connect but fails because the user name and password are corrupted. If you correct them it connects, than you can disconnect and reconnect as many times as you like woithout problem, but the next time you restart; the corruption is back. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

I have experienced exactly the same but not with orange but with BT broadband and a Thomson speedtouch USB modem using W2K and XP Pro SP2 which is why I went out and bought a wireless router, I was brassed off with all that parlava everytime I powered down
