My System: Cheap Comag reciever, 80cm dish set up for Astra and Eutelsat
Cheap comag SL 35

I purchased a cheap comag sl 35 receiver to replace an old analogue system. Can someone please tell me why it has a serial port on the back and what is it for.

Thanks

This port allows you to connect the receiver to a PC (suitable cable required) to enable you to update the receivers software with the latest available.

This may add new features, frequency listings etc.

It can also be used to 'patch' a receiver, this can allow access to channels that would normally require other equipment to watch.

These 'patches' can be found on the Internet at various sites. You will have to search for them.

Hope this helps

Lots of additional information is here on this site - just use the 'search' option at the top.

Comag SL 35

Can't find anything on this receiver, not even on the comag site. Is it a new one?
How often should I need to upgrade the software

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Loads of information on Comags here, see this thread at the top of the receiver software section http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/...ad.php?t=56720 The model you have may well be an old one, certainly the number would indicate that, so there may well not be any patches for it.
