30 Days of Night

30 Days of Night is the latest in a very long line of vampire movies.

Except in this film, the vampires are more like the crazy zombies in 28 Days Later. Except in 28 Days Later, they weren't zombies but "infected people".

Figure that out!

Back to 30 Days of Night. It starts with a crazed man being arrested by the local sheriff and locked in the cells. The man rants and predicts a month of darkness when "they will come".

THEY are the vampires. As if you hadn't guessed.

The upshot is, the vampires do come, there is darkness and people are bitten and chewed to bits. Very gruesome.

The end in my view is stoopid. Suffice to say, where were the 30 days of night? You'll know what I mean when you see it.

It's an okay movie, more zombie than vampire though. But the dialogue and story are weak. We don't know much about the characters before they start to be slain. And really we don't care about their fate.

The most annoying thing is the fact the director ruins the movie by constantly conveying darkness, half the time I couldn't see what was going on. Just 5.5 out of 10.

Ah, good old Ralph Bates. Great horror actor. Loved him in that transexual horror, Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde.

Something really kinky about that.
