Just a quick heads up on the new series, and how it got from a script to production. _http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/6349521/Defying-Gravity-the-trials-of-getting-a-big-budget-drama-made.html#

| Sorry, I thought initially it was me, but now I'm not too sure. Anyway, I thought the first two episodes were good, both technically, and from a crew forming premise. My only gripe(s) were 1) During the initial thrust on a trip round the Solar System, the spinning areas on Antares should have been stopped and possibly retracted into the main body, 2) Rather than specifying phlegm, any body fluid could have been used to temporarily seal a leak in a spacesuit, and 3) In pulling the astronaut back into the air-lock, once momentum had been achieved, there would be no need to continue pulling the cable, and the final result would have been an astronaut travelling faster than could easily be stopped by one doing the pulling with any degree of safety. Just my tuppence-worth | ||

My System: Dreambox with PLi-Emerald 1.09 image, Matrix revolution CAS, newcamd emu, movable dish 0.85 m, very happy indeed | saw it, liked it, still wondering why Zoë was flying naked in the docking bay, lots of 'coincidences' - a 4 for science but an 8 for entertainment.

| Reading into the series from Wikipedia, the writers have included a outside force by the name of 'Beta'. Quite why this was thought necessary eludes me, as there are plenty of sci-fi 'factual' scenarios that could be included without resorting to complete fantasy. Anyhow I will be staying at home Thursday next week | ||

And their scarfs ? And what about the time delay of real-time messages between the earth and the spaceship ? Sprayed with tachyon particles no doubt.

| Just saw Episode 5, and I hope it warms up soon as that was probably the most boring hour I've had on TV this week. The last four episodes could have been condensed into an hour of prime time entertainment, but the 'Heroes/Lost' format has now become mandatory. | ||

Skystar2 /Twinhan SD /TS S2-3200 pci cards | ..Well thats ruined my day .. I really enjoyed getting to 'know' the characters and was more that a little intrigued by where the show was going with beta.. It did a bit of slow burning but once the crew and set were established it began to pick up speed .. I too have watched all 13 episodes and the landing and events of Venus left me wanting to know more.. I had no idea the show had been canned until today .. Typical bloody yanks .. If it don't come out all guns blazing ...the plug gets pulled. I'm gutted to say the least . Not the first time a show has been cancelled without giving it a fair go.. Millenium was another that springs to mind .. ..and one of my all time favourites .. Farscape.. A lot of folk 'panned' the sets and the use of involving what were basically a variation of Muppets...but the storylines were good ..and the characters exceptional.. ..and it cased a major stink amongst fans when the show got dumped in mid storyline.. So much so that live protests appeared on american chat shows ...and the shows financiers had to re-think ..and eventually agreed to at least produce 3 mini TV films to wrap up the show to fans satisfaction. What I saw developing at the end of season one of DG ...was the potential for multiple seasons each to run to touchdown on each planet in our solar system.. ..and the resulting interactions and trials along the way.. It had a beginning ...a middle ...and and a mysterious end ..at which point we would be rewarded or possibly punished for our endeavours. A format I have to say ...which is increasingly rare these days. Now I guess we will never know.. One final point .. the BBC must be and probably were already aware ...this show was canned and going nowhere .. ..so why bother even picking it up .. The BBC are just as responsible for dangling the carrot ...then snatching it away ...and us license payers just pay for their excesses and stupidity.. Said my bit ....off for now for a sulk....

| The sets have apparently been destroyed, so even if some funding did come in from elsewhere, it would be no-go. | ||

Skystar2 /Twinhan SD /TS S2-3200 pci cards | Thats 2 sickeners I've had this year .. The first being when I found out that the 2nd and 3rd books in the 'Golden Compass' Northern Lights Trilogy would never make it to the big screen .... It was claimed this was because of Philip Pullmans belief in the non existance of God ....and not because of the quality of production ..or its failure to produce results at box office .. The latter was indeed cited as a valid reason ...but its claimed that the reason for poor attendance in cinemas is that religious zealots convinced believers that the books in some way challenged the faith. Remember the crap that circulated when Life of Brian hit the screens ... I would suggest that money talks ...and that the financiers were in some way frightened off ...and left in fear of losing their own true god ...Lucre cest la vie

| Now I find that the 6th episode has already been on the box, and will not be repeated (except on iPlayer), but for some unknown reason, the repeat of episode 5 came after the two viewings of episode 6. _http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00nky79/episodes/2009 WTF!, this is worse than catching up with the episodes of Medium. | ||

| I'd rather have Hubris Possibly why this programme was canned, put it out of it's misery or such-like. Does it really get any better before Episode 13 ? At least I can console myself with Buzzcocks and Brooker | ||
