The last time I saw Torture Garden on TV was in 1987. I had a Betamax tape of it for a few years, but lost it. So I had to wait 15 years to see it again. But was it worth the wait? Yes, and it's longer and scarier than I first thought. Other Hammer and Amicus movies seem to have the tongue in cheek as well as being spooky. There's no black humour in this, only shivers. It's an effective compliation but oddly very moody, and this is demonstrated in the first and second stories. A good compilation, although Peter Cushing appears to not enjoy his part. And he's not in it much. Also stars the recently departed Jack Palance and the excellent Burgess Meredith. 8 out of 10. British horror at its best. ![]()
