Unhappy Is it just me......

Or is Christmas telly particularly bad this year???
4 satellites, over 1000 channels and I still can't find anything worth watching.
It's got so bad, I'm actually looking forward to curling up on the sofa with the good lady and watching the Emmerdale 1hr special tonight.
And we're only half way through the first day!!!!!!! I'll be a complete cabbage by new year.
Maybe I've been spoilt with the good telly I've had for the rest of the year.

My System: Sky+ Pace v3, and before that analouge 80cm dish with Prima by Pace box pointed at 19.2e (not very imaginative then!)

Yeah, I was shocked myself. You can see why the American demand their sportsmen play on Christmas day, both the NFL and NBA have match-ups today.

My System: pentium 4 3.06ghz with ht, 1 gb ram, ss2, 1.15m motor dish, strong srtv50

I totally disagree- I can't get the good bbc &itv channels yet I still find plenty. For one SF2 (13E) is showing lost followed by 24 (gonna start in 10 min for me, also prior to that I watched invader zim and the simpsons and desperate housewives. I'm sure a lot of other stuff is going on as well. If one finds that inadequate then he has a real problem with inactivity- do something creative!

My System: Motorised dish, dvd players and recorders; a freeview box, broadband, VCRs, four TVs, mobiles, pcs, a mac, Ipod, digital cameras...the lot!

Well, there's never been anything to watch on the BBC1/2/3/4, ITV 1/2/3/4, C4 for years.

C5 is slightly different. The Christmas Lectures and the occasional whacky documentary gets my interest. There's loads to watch on the foreign channels but Christmas TV in the UK has long been rubbish.

But the straw that broke the camel's back has to be endless so-called Xmas soap opera "specials", Deal Or No Deal, Phillip Schofield trash and oh my god, not another 100 worst moments.

Dire.

Yipee
Today's a lot better. Some decent horse racing, bit of footy, a couple of decent films and I haven't even checked the other sats out yet.
Perhaps Salty has a point, we should have sport on Christmas day.
Maybe it's just Christmas day when they don't bother trying.

NOOOOOOOOO

Could we have at least ONE day a year where the TV isn't polluted by sport?

Whenever there's a football match on TV I run screaming for the remote to find something, ANYTHING, that isn't in the remotest way connected with sport. In a perverted way Murdoch buying up nearly all the sport for pay TV did me a favour as it removed a lot of this rubbish from the screens. I remember the bad old days when you couldn't move for wall-to-wall sport on the TV on a Saturday afternoon.

This is a fair point, but I definitely think there should be decent films, I mean really good recent films.

A defender of the Remote Control Brigade, Sir R can flick channels faster than a Robben dive

that was the whole point with sky though, wasnt it.

Dedicated channels to a particular genre... Sport, Movies, Documentaries etc...Sky and Murdoch has its knockers... but in truth its excellent quality....

as for value however??? thats another story/topic

being a sports fan myself, i cant get enough

Sky was the low cost alternative to the BSB group, two competing for the space above the UK. BSB was in truth, better at the segregation of the content, by separating five channels into dedicated subjects.
Skys original platform was free, and bundled a larger number of channels (not all Murdoch, but the empire never got round to clarifying), with the viewer able to watch content from other providers with the same kit.

In the end, technical issues, a merger, and clever marketing meant there could be only be one.
