Report: Premiere relies on new encryption system [Update]
According to information from the news magazine Focus plans to the pay-TV channel Premiere a speedy, complete conversion of its digital encryption system. To use it instead of the long broken Nagravision the system VideoGuard NDS. NDS The company is majority-owned by the News Corporation by ****** Murdoch, the recently about 15 percent of Premiere has acquired.

VideoGuard is as yet not knackbar. During the night of Monday to Tuesday, therefore, for example, the cable operator Kabel BW on video to Guard, other cable providers such as Germany also plan to shift.

Premiere is expected to adopt the old Smart Cards free exchange. Most digital receivers to be via software update VideoGuard capability can be made. Owners of dbox1 or dbox2 receivers are then expected to adopt - whether legally or as "Black Unlicensed" - Premiere is no longer able to receive.

[Update:]

A Premiere spokesman called Focus Online over the possible receivers exchange as "pure speculation". He stressed the update According to the report, Premiere had a contract with the provider of its current encryption system. (Annulled / c't)

EDIT

apparently sly bought 15% in the company so NDS looks like the way they are going, they were scheduled to go to nagra3 but it seems like that is no longer an issue by reading this.

Would've thought they'd stick with Kudelski and go to N3. There's a lot of boxes out there to change - not like S*y italia where Mr. M was able to do the box swop.

After entering of Murdoch nothing shall change for customers of Premiere
18.01.2008

After the entering of the media mogul Rupert Murdoch nothing shall change for the estimated 4 million customers of the pay-TV channel Premiere. A spokesperson declared last Sunday that the media reports about an impending recall action concerning the digital receivers were a wild guess. The magazine "Focus" had reported that the digital encryption system of Premiere, Nagravision, should be replaced by the NDS VideoGuard system of Murdoch. The spokesperson pointed out that Premiere had an agreement with the provider of its current encryption system.
Last week it became known that Murdoch is the new major shareholder of the pay-TV channel. A company affiliated with the News Corp. of Murdoch had bought 14.58% of the Premiere shares from the cable-network operator Unitymedia for 287 million Euros in cash or 17.50 EUR per share. With this business deal Murdoch has managed his re-entry on the German media market after several start-ups.

I think the NDS story was oh-so predictable, and that they'll simply go N3 as planned.

BSkyB's stake is a two-pronged move IMO, a bit like ITV. Either they get a useful sleeper-slice of the German market for the longer term aims of the company to be fulfilled - maybe with the option to increase it later, or to make a quick killing when Vivendi buy it next month.

I don't think it was a blocking move as such, but a cheeky punt. 'Murdoch' doesn't want Premiere to have NDS yet. Only if NC become majority shareholders.
