Eurosport leads cable and satellite ratings | | Médiamétrie’s biannual survey on French cable, satellite and ADSL ratings for September 2007 to February 2008 has confirmed Eurosport’s leading position.
The TF1 Group channel had a 1.4% audience share of the whole Mediacabsat population (16.87 million people). But in a period where DTT channels are nibbling audience shares, Eurosport’s results have gone down, 0.4% lower compared to the previous (June 2007) study. However, Eurosport is still the only channel above one per cent.
Two other channels can boast reaching a one per cent audience share: Canal+ Sport and kids’ channel Canal J (Lagardère). Contrary to previous Mediacabsat surveys, the top three channels are changed as news channel LCI and full-programming RTL9 are no longer measured, as they now prefer to get daily ratings. So do TF6 (TF1/M6) and TV Breizh (TF1).
This year Mediacabsat measured 86 channels. With 0.9%, NBC Universal’s 13ème Rue is up 0.1% while M6 channels Teva, for women and series-dedicated Serie Club perform quite well, both reaching 0.7% audience share.
At the end of the listing, several channels including international formats such as E! Entertainment or ESPN Classic, are credited with less than 0.1% audience share, which is fewer than two million viewers over a week.
More globally, cable and satellite channels now reach 29.1% audience share of subscribing viewers aged 4+ , up 0.6% in the last six months but down 1.2% over one year. In the same period, DTT channels gained 1.8% at five per cent audience share.
Over one year, historical terrestrial networks lost 0.9% to the Mediacabsat subscribers. |
