GPU, CPU & Notebook Lineup Released By AMD

According to industry sources, AMD is expecting their share of the discrete graphics card market to rise dramatically after their next generation RV778 GPU is released at the close of the second quarter later this year. Currently AMD account for roughly 35% of the market, and by the end of the year, they expect to taking around 50% of the market.

At this stage, AMD have fully completed DVT sampling for the B3 Phenom processors, with the related triple-core and quad-core parts due to appear in April. At a media event in Taipei, AMD stated that their 45nm quad-core processors for servers (Shanghai) and for desktops (Deneb) are both schedualed to ship in the third or fourth quarters of this year.

Motherboard makers have already said they are already EVT testing AMD’s 45nm processors and are expecting results in August or September.

According to motherboard manufacturers. AMD are planning a series of notebook processors, codenamed Swift, to be released in the third or fourth quarter of next year. There will be two versions, the dual-core Black Swift and single-core White Swift, both of which will have built-in graphics processors. Along with a companion chipset, Swift will form the Shrike platfrom which will support DDR3 memory.

There is no comment from Nvidia at this stage as to AMD’s boast of gaining 50% of the graphics card market.
