BSkyB has emerged as the clear winner of a number of rights packages for the UEFA Champions League between 2009 and 2012. It follows a competitive market for the rights, which was known to include current terrestrial rights holders ITV and the BBC, keen to maintain live football coverage after the loss of the FA Cup. Sky’s package includes exclusive coverage of all live matches and highlights on Tuesday evenings and all games on Wednesdays with the exception of a first choice fixture. Coverage will be carried across the Sky Sports network including the broadcasters three HD channels. Live streaming will be available on skysports.com and over Sky Mobile TV. No financial terms have been disclosed. A second round of bidding will be conducted for the remaining Wednesday night first pick game.
