August launch date for Kangaroo VOD

Further details have emerged of the joint video on demand venture from BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4.

Errol Baran, Channel 4's head of new media advertising, said Project Kangaroo was expected to launch on the web in August then join television platforms later.

No final name has yet been given to the application that will bring together archive content from all the broadcasters.

Baran said they planned to include a registration process so ads could be targeted by area, age and demographic, and to monitor how people are watching.

There are expected to be display ads, pre-roll ads and centre-break ads around the video.

"It is about bringing brands closer to the audience," Baran told Brand Republic. "But it is in the stakeholders' interests to offer the best user experience, while managing to drive commercial revenue opportunities."

ITV and Channel 4 plan to sell advertising around their own content, while BBC Worldwide is expected to contract out sales. ITV and Channel 4 are both pitching for the contract.
